One Glass of Wine...

I've *heard* you can have one glass late in pregnancy. I didn't ask the doc, but do contemplate it sometimes. It just seems so weird after avoiding and abstaining for so many months to taste the forbidden fruit (haha).  I'm not actually all that tempted, but I was curious how many of you did this for a special occasion or to relieve a long stressful day in the later part of your pregnancy. Thoughts?

  • I did not partake once I got my BFP. I was, however, quite smashed the weekend before my BFP. ;-)

  • I've heard that but personally am not willing to take the chance.  I'm holding off until after pg.

Hahaha, MEEE TOOO!  I peed on a stick the following monday and was like... whoops.

  • I am prob in the minority but I did it fairly regularly in the third tri, maybe once a week or so, but it was a super small glass that I sipped at just for the flavor. I love red wine with certain meals. And my DH didn't object.

  • I had a couple of sips of wine, but no more than that.  I was told that I could have a glass, but I chose not to.  The reason I didn't drink is because wine affects me so quickly... I get a buzz with just one glass.  I kept thinking "If one glass of wine gives me a buzz, what's it doing to the baby?"  I have no idea of that's logical at all or if it would affect a fetus the same way it affects the mom, but it just seemed wrong to me!
  • I had a sip or two while pregnant, but not a glass.  I craved beer so badly and I'm not a beer drinker at all.  It was the weirdest thing.  I never caved in and drank any though.  Now I don't crave it at all...so strange.  I remember having a glass of wine and thinking that it just didn't taste right and I thought something was wrong with it.  Then the very next day, I got my BFP!

ETA:  I'd say go ahead and take a few sips or have a small glass so you can have a taste and not feel totally deprived.  A little doesn't hurt.

  • I didn't.  It just didn't feel right to me, even though I knew a little was ok.  What's weird is that after Eli was born, I just don't really care to drink that much anymore.  I guess I went without so long I lost my taste for it or something.  I'll have a drink or two occassionally, but it's just not the same anymore.

  • The last 2 weeks of pregnancy I was having tons of contractions.  My midwife told me to drink a 1/2 glass of wine and if the contractions kept coming it was labor.  If they didn't, it wasn't.

I did.  The contractions were never real.

  • I wanted to oh how I wanted to but my dh was really against it so I respected his wishes and did not. I have a girlfriend that had a glass weekly in her third tri with both of her kids. And they both turned out just fine.
  • I went to a wine tasting at 30 weeks.

  • I had a couple of sips here and there and maybe a tiny glass at one point, but nothing more than that.  I really don't think it's a big deal at all in very small portions.

  • I had sips of DHs beer and wine throughout my pregnancy, and I did drink a small glass of wine once in my 3rd tri.  I drank it very slowly and enjoyed it! :)  I would have done that more often but DH and I don't drink the same wine and it wasn't worth it to buy a bottle for me to drink 1/2 a glass of it.

  • It was just a personal preference for me but I never had any alcohol during pregnancy. Like Mikey, I don't have quite the taste for it anymore now either. Maybe once I'm not breastfeeding that will change.
  • I never did, b/c I was paranoid since they say they can't prove how much alcohol causes Fetal Alcohol syndrome. But I'd say I wouldn't be as worried about 1 glass in 3rd tri-prob not in 2nd tri and def not in 1st!

  • I had a glass of red wine about once a week for the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy.  I also had one at 30 weeks once I found out I passed hte CPA exam.

  • I had a couple non-alcoholic beers and definitely had 1/2 glass of wine a week my last 6 weeks. And, DH brought me my favorite beer in the hospital. That was one delicious beer! I say go ahead...just don't overdo it.
  • I had a small glass of wine a few times during my pregnancy.  I'm not usually much of a beer drinker but craved it like crazy wile pg.  I bought the non-alcoholic beer (which has some alcohol in it) a couple times and would sometimes have a few sips of DH's beer.

  • I never even looked at alcohol while I was pregnant. I know in small amounts it is ok, but it wasn't really important to me, and it wasn't worth it to me. I just didn't need it.

  • I vowed that I'd drink 1/2 a glass of wine in my third trimester b/c I'm convinced it's safe at that point.  However, I never had as much as a sip because the only times I wanted it were when we were out (such as at a friend's rehearsal dinner and then wedding) and it would have looked really bad IMO.  (If I could have snuck off to a corner with nobody seeing I totally would have though...it smelled really good!!!)  I did have about 1/4 glass 2 days after giving birth when we had our make-up Thanksgiving dinner, LOL!

  • I did.  When I say "glass," I'm talking about half the size of a typical glass of wine that you would pour or be served.

I had a glass or two after 24 weeks for braxton hicks contrax, but also one at a party.

I had a few in third tri to relax or stop braxton hicks contrax.

Probably 10 glasses total throughout the pregnancy?
