3rd tri induction question

Hi Ladies,

I found out today that my bp is elevated and may be sent in for an induction in the next week or so (I'm 37w today) depending on results from todays other tests. Anyway, I have been hoping to go med-free (for as long as possible at least) and I'm wondering how likely that will be if I am, in fact, induced.

So my question is: If you planned/wanted/hoped to go natural and had to be induced were you still able to go med-free?

TIA!

Re: 3rd tri induction question

  • There are some that can do it (a nestie on ML named cjoy has done it twice), but I could not. I wanted to, but couldn't manage it. I did have an absolutely fantastic birth though and honestly I don't think I would have been as happy/relaxed if I hadn't had the epidural.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Going med free after being induced is possible, but I can't even imagine. Good luck to you, I feel like anyone who can pull that off deserves a medal. seriously.
  • Best of luck to you :)

I was induced at 37weeks with Pre E and I ended up with a Csection. I hope That you have the birth experience you want but even if it doesnt go according to plan remember that you still get to take the baby home. Hope to see you on here soon!

  • I was induced at 39 weeks, and went med free. It's not super fun (but when would labor be fun?) :)

It's totally possible. Just relax. And stay focused. You can do it!

  • I made it 16 hours into my induction (total 22 hours) before I asked for drugs. I did a shot of morphine first into my IV drip & then my epidural. Once I had my epidural (19 hours in) I managed to finally get some sleep since I had been up for 2.5 days and I went from like 5-10 and pushing on my own in less than an hour and a half. I was originally using Hypnobabies.

  • I was induced & did not get the epidural. This was not by choice though - they wouldn't give it to me because I had pre-eclepcia. It was far more intense & painful then I ever could have imagined. Not getting my epidural ruined my birth experience for me.
  • I couldn't do it.  I mean, I could have I guess if I had to but I got my epi in the end and life was wonderful after that!

I labored from 12am-9am with Cytotec (started contractions) and from 9am-7:30pm on pitocin med-free (finally had Cole at 2:30am).  The doctor broke my water around 4:30pm and that's when it started getting bad.  I should have gotten my epi an hour sooner than I did, I could hardly move to get into position for it.  Keep in mind that when you're being induced you pretty much have to stay in bed, I feel like if I could have walked around or something I could have done it for longer.  But my labor was great other than those couple hours after my water broke, I'd get the epi again in a heartbeat.

  • I didn't want an epidural ... but I wasn't opposed to IV drugs if needed.  Unfortunately, I needed! lol

I also had an epidural. My cervadil started contractions within a half an hour and my labor went super hard and fast. Anthony was out within 8 hours. So I went from 0 - baby in only 8 hours.  The pain for me hurt too bad. My BP was high to begin with, which was why I was induced, and the pain was NOT helping, so that is why I elected for the epidural. The IV meds didn't TOUCH the pain.

It's totally your choice. Quite honestly, when you're in the moment - at least for me - it was all about getting the baby out safely, and if I needed an epidural to do that (especially to avoid needing a c-section if my BP spiked too high, etc.), then so be it.  Anthony's happy and healthy and I don't regret it - even though the idea of an epi still freaks me out!!!

    This. This. This.

I feel like I could have had a MUCH better labor and delivery had I been able to get up and walk around to move him down.

  • I was just induced for high BP and never planned to go med free....but agree with the pp.  If you could pull that off...I don't even know what you deserve.  I felt contractions for all of about 15-20 minutes and that was more than enough, if I had to go through several hours of that.....just wow.
