hair question for new moms

Ladies,

I admit this is a silly concern, and once my baby is born it may be the furthest thing from my mind...But I am due with my first in March and have always been a bit vain. Right now I am enjoying how the pregnancy has made my hair super thick and radiant. However, I have read that after the baby is born, some people lose hair and experience thinning hair. I get pretty bent out of shape when my hair won't cooperate...Again, I realize this won't be priority #1 after I'm taking care of a newborn, but it's something I wonder about.

Any experiences with this?

  • You're right, it won't be a priority at all. Some days you won't be able to even shower! But to answer your question, I have not had any change in my hair since my LO has been born.

  • I was just commenting today how nice it was to not "shed" during pregnancy.. Now the shedding is back Sad  There was no other significant change to my hair.  It's still as thick as ever.

  • My hair didn't start falling out until 10 weeks or so, and it's just back to normal now not really "thinning"

  • I haven't lost any yet (3 weeks PP).  But you're right..you won't really care.  I consider it a successful day if I even get to wash my hair...a miracle to wash and blow dry it.

this exactly...I vacuumed today and then brushed my hair and I have to do it all over :(
  • My cousin lost a lot of hair, even sections of her eyelashes fell out.  I've noticed that I'm now losing a little, but nothing crazy.  Pretty much the same amount I would lose pre-pregnancy.
  • My hair didn't start falling off until this week (DS is 15 weeks old), but it's not much and I don't mind because I really have like way too much :)

  • I'm 5 weeks PP and I haven't noticed a difference aside from the grease that just doesn't get a chance to get washed out much anymore Stick out tongue

Nope, you won't care much at all. My hair gets washed when I leave the house and I'm lucky enough to have a H who comes home for lunch so I can have a shower while he watches DD. If she's awake, she's never settled long enough for me to put her in the bouncy or swing while I do it.
