Formula Feeders- gas problems/ formula ?

HELP ME!! My poor little guy is DYING from gas pains, he's worse in the middle of the night it seems. We won't be able to get to the pedi until we're back from vacation so I was going to see if anyone else has consulted their pedi about this. I picked up some Gentlease formula which is for fussiness and gas so we're hoping that it helps.

He doesn't have reflux, just gas, he screams in pain and then farts sooo loud and then is quiet and this goes on alll day and night.... we give him Mylicon and Tylenol every other feeding it seems and it barely helps.

I'm also supplementing with breastmilk so it's hard for me to tell which is causing the issue... there's too many variables right now. I'm thinking that it's got to be the formula though. We've been giving him the Similac Advanced from the hospital fwiw.

Anyone have any ideas for me!??

Re: Formula Feeders- gas problems/ formula ?

  • i would recommend speaking with a pedi before switching formula's, in the meantime go to walmart or cvs..whatever is open & pick up some Little Tummy's. a good friend of ours has a daughter with the same problem of BAD gas. they put i believe 2ml in her bottle's & it seems to help.

  • It might be something in your diet, do you keep a food log of what you eat?  If so track back about 2-4 hours to see if there is a trend.  You can use the Mylicon at every feeding (12 doses per day is the max).  Little Tummy's is the same thing and just as good.  I would lay off the Tylenol, the formula switch is probably not going to be a problem since you are already experiencing GI distress.  The Gentlease uses a different process in terms of the protiens and he maybe able to tolerate it better.  Do you pump or nurse?  You might want to go with one or the other for 8 hours and see what kind of response you get.  But only if you are pumping, you don't want this to effect your supply.  Good luck, I responded on the diaper post too.  Let me know if you have any questions..it can be tough.  Like I said this is my 4th, which is still crazy to me.  Everyday something happens that has never happened before!!Smile

Thank you for your thoughts on both posts! I appreciate it! I pump and breastfeed, since my supply is so low we have to triple feed to attempt to get it back up. I think we will try and cut out the breast milk for one day and only give the new formula and see what happens. Then try the other and see. I haven't been keeping a food log really but I will try to keep that in mind and see if I notice a pattern. We'll see what happens I guess...
