Ugh...SIL and Baby Wise and CIO...

SIL and BIL are visiting for the holidays with their LO who is 11 days older than DS. We were chatting today and she said starting 3 months (now) I can let DS CIO and that I should read Baby Wise. My face when she told me this: Indifferent

I didn't know what to say so I just said "Thanks, but that's not for us."

It makes me really sad that my beautiful little niece will be CIO soon Sad

    That sucks.  Any chance you might be able to give her some other info?  I mean you don't want to start a war but maybe she doesn't know any better.

    I'd really like to, but I think if I do it now she might take offense. I don't know, maybe not. Ugh it's so frustrating!

    I might be worth suggesting something else to her.  I know you're horrified, but were you offended when she made her suggestion?

     My SILs and I do things differently but as long as we are being kind and conversational, we recommend and share things all the time.  

    Perhaps if you keep things light, you could point her in another direction? ie: "I looked into that Babywise book you were talking about and there seems to be some controversy over whether its a good idea to...  Have you looked into The Baby Whisper?" Just a thought.

    I would have probably said something educationalish, like "actually, most experts consider it incredibly damaging to let a baby cry it out because..."

    Because really, sometimes people honestly don't know some things, and they might actually think that CIO is best for baby.  It's not bad to give a different opinion.

    Send her an email.  What cubits said is a great idea.  "Had a look, there's actually some really controversial stuff in there.  Why don't you try A or B instead?"
