Carseat Logistics... Help!?

So... I'm trying to figure out how to work 2 carseats and a 10 year old... I have 3 rows in my Tahoe, so obviously we have plenty of room. I just can't figure out how I should arrange car seats.

currently, K's carseat is on the passenger side of the 2nd row.  My first thought was I'd put S's seat behind me... However, then it blocks the 'access' to the third row... But M could still just climb over the back seat... just seems like such a PITA.

My 2nd thought was to put both K and S on the 60 side of the 2nd row and then the 40 section could still fold down for access... My fear is that K might beat the crap out of S or something while I'm driving and can't really do anything. lol  It also might make it a little harder for getting S in/out of the car.

The last option would be to put both M and K in the back, but if/when M is not with me, it'd be a real PITA to get her buckled in.

Any thoughts?  I'm thinking I'll just go with the first arrangement, but I thought you ladies might have ideas that I haven't thought of. :)

Thanks!

Re: Carseat Logistics... Help!?

  • My initial thought was to do it the first way you described.  I think if you put K and S close together, that trouble will immediately follow.  The pediatrician who followed Elizabeth at the hospital told me specifically NOT to put her carseat right next to Sarah's, and I think she was speaking from the experience of parenting multiple children close in age.

It will be a pain for Michaela to climb over the seat but I bet she immediately figures out how to do it quickly and efficiently.  Could you also put an additional infant carseat base on the back row by M?  That way she could tend to the baby for you while you guys are all in the car together, but when she's not with you, you'd have a place to put the carseat on the second row too.

  • Here is how we did it:  DD is behind the drivers side in her infant carrier.  DS is in the middle (still rear facing) in his convertible.  So far, no trouble has ensured b/n the two and it leaves the seat behind the passenger for another person to sit.

  • There were way too many times I need to reach into the backseat to sooth ds, so whatever you do, my personal vote is to put the new baby on the passenger side.
