Parenting after a Loss

How would your pedi feel about working with another pedi?

We love M's pedi. I mean instead of switching to someone full time up here, we're driving 2 hours to see him for well visits.

I'd like to have a pedi up here by us just in case M gets a high fever, gets hurt, etc. But I feel funny tell ing them that they're not good enough for a full time transfer, but instead would like them to work with her pedi.

OUr insurance is such that we don't need a referral to see other drs. WDYT?

  • What do you mean "work with"?

If you came to me and said "Dr. lkstor - just moved here, but I have a pedi I love back in ____ that I love and I plan to continue seeing him/her for well child visits.  I will provide you with shot records, etc.  I will just come to you for acute concerns."  No problem whatsoever.

If you said "Dr. lkstor - M is sick but I want you to call her regular pedi and talk to him about it."  That wouldn't fly with me.

No no first scenario. I would want him/her to be caught up on all vax & issues that have come up between visits. I'd also like to have someone else I trust for 2nd opinions. Ya know?

  • I think that is totally reasonable!  Personally I would make you do the leg work, though (i.e. bring copies of recent notes or immunizations with you, etc).  I hate trying to call other offices during the middle of a busy day and then you have to FAX written consent to release info....  Blah blah blah.  It's just easier if you ask for a copy of that stuff before you leave and keep a little medical record of M's stuff.

  • I see this at my office occasionally.  I agree with pp.  Just make sure that any changes in LO's plan of care are communicated to both providers offices in a timely manner...its really frustrating when one provider makes a change that is not communicated to the other provider and records are not accurate.  If you communicate it as above it shouldn't be a problem!
