3rd Trimester

xp from 2nd Tri- Baby hiccups?

I posted this on 2nd trimester, too, but just thought that you ladies might have a better idea.

How far along are you when you start feeling the baby having hiccups?  I felt this rhythmic tapping this morning while laying in bed.  It wasn't like normal kicks and jabs and it wasn't coming from one area, but more like a shaking feeling in my belly.  It last about 30 seconds then stopped and I felt Cadie readjust herself and she's been pretty quiet since.  I'm thinking this was hiccups, but I just thought that it was still kind of early for that (I'll be 25 weeks tomorrow).  Anyone have any ideas?

  • I didn't notice mine until about 30 weeks but it sounds like what you are describing might have been hiccups. Cute, huh?

  • It's not too early for hiccups, but they normally last much longer than 30 sec- with both DD and DS, they have lasted between 5 and 30 min. While I generally feel them more in one area, close to where the head is, but depending on the position I sometimes feel them throughout my whole belly. They are very rhythmic.
  • Just this past week, so 30 weeks for me too.
  • Like pp said, they tend to last at least a few minutes and the feeling is centralized in one area. It's possible that's what it was though, I don't think you're too early to be feeling them.

To me, it feels like a heart beat pattern.

  • I didn't feel them until 28 weeks - and when my LO gets them, they last for a LONG time - but yes, what you are describing sounds like hiccups.

    Same here.

  • Thanks ladies.  It definitely felt like a heart beat pattern rather than individual kicks.  I was actually on my side/stomach when I felt it and it stopped when I shifted on my back.  I guess I'll see if I feel it again, but my gut tells me it was hiccups.

  • Definitely sounds like hiccups. With this pregnancy, I *may* have felt them as early as around 18 weeks (not sure about that one) but they were unmistakable starting at 25 weeks. They also last for different lengths of time -- 30 seconds doesn't sound "too short" to me at all, especially if they stopped when you shifted. The baby may have just moved into a different place where you couldn't feel them as strongly.

  • I first noticed hiccups I think around 27 weeks. It's a light, rhythmic tapping. It's very cute and endearing - I love it when he hiccups! And I probably feel it now every few days, sometimes a few times a day and other days not at all.
