... if everyone is gonna buy whatever they want anyways? I am so blessed by the people in my life that want to buy for my little boy... but after they all asked "where are you registered?"... no one has bought anything off the actual registries???? Maybe there will be last minute gift buyers, but the folks I have already spoken with have all vollunteered that they didn't buy off my registry for one reason or another. I am just worried that we will have all clothes... and nothing we actually need.
Again... I am not being ungrateful for those folks that want to buy for him... just curious if you recieved mostly items not off your registry at your shower?

Yeah I know people buy at the last minute. I am one of those people! My shower is next weekend. I was more just suprised that I had 8 different people all tell me... "OMG I got your shower gift yesterday. It's not on your registry... but it's so cute" TRANSLATION: Clothes... lol
I'll be grateful for whatever I end up with... just hope we get a good portion of the necessities too... it would be such a big help! I didn't register for 1 item of clothing... knowing that people love to buy clothes. People offer hand me downs of clothes... which I gladly accept and thank them for. I think I will never go rogue again (ignoring a registry) after this experience! I know I have been guilty of it too. I guess it takes being in this position to understand! I guess it's karma!

No one bought anything off my registry for my shower..except my dad who bought the crib. I was a little upset because my aunt bought me a bouncer from BRU that I specifically did not register for because my BD's daughter had the same one, and I know it's neurotic, but I didn't want our baby to have the same one...so, I'm going to take it back, pay the extra $20 and get the one on the registry. I wasn't upset about the registry thing because most of what was on there was just common stuff anyway. People gave me different kinds of bottles...which is good in finding out which type works for baby best and you have a variety to try out. I got a lot of clothes for when she's older...which is good. My mom is taking care of a lot of newborn clothing. I know it can be stressful worrying about having everything you need...but I think that BRU has a way of making me feel that I need more than I really do. GL!
I had the exact same experience. I registered over a month ago and had my shower on Sunday (kind of early... but it worked for us). Anyway - I only got a few items off my registry. Everyone else brought a LOT of clothes and blankets.
Mind you, the clothes are adorable!! I'm really grateful for everything I did get, but I still have a lot that I need to buy myself. I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes!
Amen to that!

For me, i'd say 1/3 of the gifts were from my registry, and 2/3 were not. We got tons of clothes and blankets. Anything that we truly felt we would not use, we returned so that we could get more of the necessities. I really didn't have too much trouble returning things, even without a receipt (to BRU, Target, Baby Depot, Dillard's or Sears). I think people forget that there is so much that you NEED, and they are too tempted to buy cute stuff rather than boring necessities. Have fun at your shower and try not to worry about it!
My family was basically the only ones who bought off my registry. Everyone else gave me a) clothes b) toys c) blankets or d) things they used for their kids that were "lifesavers" (these gifts were actually appreciated - I'll take all the help I can get).
But I swear I've never seen so many blankets and bibs. Oh, and fleece jammies that are 3-6 months. Yeah, those will come in handy in Texas in July.

I had my shower Sunday and got TONS of clothes. I think people love to buy them because they're so teeny tiny and cute! Some people were very thoughtful and bought things that were 12mos, etc, rather than all newborn.
I did get a few things off my registry, mostly from close friends and my sister. I'm thankful for everything though and will be able to use it all!
Yeah I am floored at people that buy clothes in big sizes and do not bother to do the math! BTW... your cat is adorable.

After we originally registered my MIL gave me a hard time because there wasn't enough stuff on there. So after several comments, I added more that we didn't really need. We have had SEVEN things from our registry purchased for us. Most are just random things. The worst part is my MIL hasn't bought ANYTHING from the registry but lots of clothes. That irritates me SOOOO bad!! I want to say something to her but don't want to sound ungrateful for everything she has done and given us.
It's frustrating!!
About 3/4 of the gifts were off our registry and 1/4 were other things with gift reiepts, still basic stuff we needed though. We only received two layettes and one 3 pack of cute neutral onsies. Oh and a 75.00 spa gift card which obviously was also not on the registry but I was super excited about it :0)
I've heard being team green makes it harder for people to go overboard with the clothing and they stick closer to the registry. Honestly that was one of the perks of going Team Green that kept me from finding out on the days I was starting to cave.
You can always return a majority of the stuff you didn't register for. It's a pain but at least it's a little green to go towards the basics.
My mom keeps bugging me to add more items to our registry but I refuse. I only registered for things we absolutely need. I know not everyone buys off the registry so I figure if everything on our registry is an item we need, even if people only buy 5 things, that's 5 things we need and don't have to buy ourselves. So no clothes, blankets, or anything else just because it's cute.
We got some stuff off our nursery (all of our bedding, boppy, a few other little things) but most were clothes. And that was totally fine with me--we 100% planned and budgeted for buying all baby necessities.
The registry list is still helpful for us since we know what we still need to buy, etc. We'll also ask for a few remaining items for Christmas gifts.
I had the same experience. Incredibly grateful for the gesture... but would have loved to have gotten the things we really need.
I spread the word FAR and WIDE that we didn't need a single piece of clothing or shoes (a friend is a buyer for a children's line and stocked us for the first 2 years of her life) - but the majority of what I got was clothes, clothes, clothes.
I'm thinking I'll just donate a lot of it to a women's shelter or something.
THIS EXACTLY!!
I completely agree with you. I get very frustrated when people don't even bother looking at the registry. I had some people that bought stuff that I wanted and was on our registry but found it cheaper somewhere else so got it there. I think that is fabulous! But to buy something that we might already have or that we might not want or need, annoying.
We did get lucky and the majority of the stuff we got at the first shower was off of our registry. I think we only got two or three things not on the registry.
I had my first shower (DH's side of the family) Saturday and we didn't get a single thing off of our registry! Lots of clothes that we will most likely exchange because of size/season issues, a ton of diapers that we will totally use, some toy items and quite a few handmade blanket and burp cloth sets. With the exception of a bouncy seat that I will use in place of the one on our registry nothing was even similar to what we had put on the list.
But, we had already planned on purchasing the necessities ourselves so everything we get for our showers is just a generous bonus from people who love us...
