3rd Trimester

Bummed about our house/Feel like a bad mom already :(

We closed on our house on Monday, which is amazing. We don't get the keys until this upcoming Monday. We need to scrub the walls (former owners were heavy heavy smokers), prime, paint, and re-carpet.

Well, home depot told us yesterday that if they measured today (which they can't, we don't have keys yet) they could install the carpet on December 22nd.

They can't measure us until December 1st, we don't get the keys until 6pm on Monday. It looks like we won't get to be in our house for LO's first Christmas. It's not the end of the world, but I am so so bummed about it.

There's a local carpet store that can get us carpeted within a week of measuring, but they're a little bit more money. I'd rather spend it to get in earlier, but I know we're on a strict budget.

I just feel like a bad mommy already that we can't even take LO to his own home after he's born and for Christmas. Crying

  • You're certainly not a bad mom. It's totally out of your control, and you'll be in your new home before you know it. Your LO will never be the wiser. Wink

  • I don't see why this makes you a bad mom.  It's not like if you had the extra money you wouldn't pay a little more to get in the house for the holidays.  Plus, it's love that makes the holidays special, not where you live.

  • i'm lurking. i know you feel badly, but your LO won't even know the difference.  i was so upset when i deliverd DD early b/c her nursery wasn't finished.  she doesn't have a flippin clue.
  • I know I'm being irrational. It's just that things have been happening pretty quickly, so we totally thought we'd be in the house sooner. Yeah, not going to happen. At least I have the peace of mind that when we get to move in, LO will be moving into a completely clean and finished home Big Smile

This exactly!  I really do understand your disappointment but, the great thing is that your LO will never know the difference.

  • Can you try other places than the two stores? What about Empire Carpets or Lowes?

FIL gets a discount at Home Depot because he's a business owner and uses them exclusively. So it's totally worth it to wait, I'm just bummed. I love Christmas and reeeaally wanted to be in the house by then.

And since I'm hugely pregnant and can't help paint/move/anything I (irrationally) feel like everyone is decorating my house without me.

  • I live in a 1-bedroom apartment so I must deserve the prize for worst mom ever!

  • Our house is currently a complete disaster- nursery needs another coat of paint (and then a major cleaning because of the work we've been doing in there), our living room is torn up from two jobs that aren't done yet, the kitchen ceiling needs to be repaired due to damage from a leak, and the whole kitchen needs repainted (because of a prior job that we had done in there that left it half-unpainted), we need to refinish the floors because of dog pee issues, our baby gates have been so destructive from our dogs that the trim is torn up on all 3 doorways to the living room & kitchen, so they need to be patched up, painted, and new gates installed... let's see what else, oh we had radiators removed from all of the rooms upstairs- including the nursery, so we need to patch up carpet in 3 rooms... we took a window out of the shower, and we need to replace the tub surround (because we currently have a trashbag covering up drywall in the shower)... and the carpets all need to be cleaned...

I could go on, but these are things I want taken care of before LO arrives in like 6 weeks...yeah right! LOL

  • You are far from a bad Mom. I've lived in a lot worse when I was a single mom with my son. We lived in a tiny 2 bedroom, 1 bath house that was on blocks, it leaned, the washer and dryer were in the kitchen, it had a gas leak and no a/c. I rented the house so my son could stay in the same school for his autism special ed classes he was used to. The landlord was a jerk, gave me grief over fixing the gas leak and an even harder time about the a/c. The gas leak was so faint I couldn't tell and Connor and I were sick for over 3 months. It was a means to an end. Stay in the rent house, save up money and buy a new home so we'd have something permanent that was ours. That's what I did. Connor picked the house and had an itemized list of what he wanted our home to be like. Sure as that boy prayed to God to find us this house, God found it.

This is a means to an end. It's just one more thing to get done while you are having a family. You can always tell your son "We found this house weeks before you were born. This is what it looked like when we bought it. It took a lot of work but this is what it looks like now. We wanted to make sure it was perfect before we brought you in to it." This shows what lengths you are willing to go to for your son, to ensure he has what's best for him. How does that make you a bad mom? From where I stand it sounds like you're not settling for anything less than the best. That's a good mom in my book.

  • You are not a bad mom.  Your LO wouldn't notice if you took him in a rundown motel as long as it was warm.

That's not what I'm saying at all. We're just living with my parents (since October) and are here until our house is ready. As it is, we're cramped, crowded and have no privacy. There's nowhere for us to set up any of LO's things. All of our baby items/shower gifts are piled on my mom and dad's dining room table!

Wow, what the hell is your problem? You attacked me because of my family Thanksgiving drama and dislike of Jamison and now you're attacking the OP about why she's bummed she can't prepare for LO to be here. What kind of posts should we have up here? I want to make sure everyone's in the future are all Nickicl approved.

  • Have you asked your realtor if they could let the Home Depot people in to measure this week? Around here realtors make a fortune on a commission and I think most would be willing to help out in this situation. Can't hurt to ask.
    siggy should be here!

Its a ridiculous thing to be worried about.  This is not a real problem and it shows that priorities are all out of wack that someone would even question whether this makes them a bad mom!

You, JinglesChic, are nothing but drama from what I've seen and frankly you do get on my nerves.  Nothing has to be approved by me nor do my comments have to be approved by you.  There's plenty of comments elsewhere I agree with, just none of yours.
