Sewing/Embroidery Machine Owners - NPGR

I hope this is a good place to post this...

I am interesting in starting a little embroidery type business on the side (i do work full time) and was wanting someone to recommend their combo machine. Even if you only have an embroidery only machine, please give me a little feedback and recommend your machine. I have seen more and more women doing this for a living so i thought i would see what you all thought!

Thanks so much!

Re: Sewing/Embroidery Machine Owners - NPGR

  • I personally don't like the combo machines because I want to be able to do 2 different things (sew and embroider) at the same time. Also, embroidery takes a while if it's a large design, etc.

I have 2 separate machines - one sewing and one stand alone embroidery machine. Both are by Bernina........LOVE them both. Bernina makes really great machines.

What type of budget do you have? That will determine a lot.

I don't really have a budget so i'm open for pretty much whatever. Very good point about 2 separate machines. Thanks so much for the feedback!!!

  • My sewing machine was around $1500 and my embroider machine was $1K. Not sure if that's a good price point for you to work with.

Also, keep in mind that most of the embroidery machines that are not pro machines, only take one spool of thread at a time (mine also does). This might be an issue if you need to do things really fast.

Lastly, don't forget that you will need some kind of software if you want to do designs, etc. Almost all the embroidery machines come with limited designs/fonts, etc.

Oh, and MAKE SURE that your embroidery machine has a big hoop (as well as a small hoop)..........
