Do you change LO's diaper in the middle of the night?

My pedi mentioned something about not changing LO in the middle of the night if he just has a wet diaper.  Something about if he stays lightly sleeping during his feeding he may start sleeping longer stretches.

I think I'm going to give it a shot... but I'm worried about waking up to a wet crib & kid!

  • When DH gets up with him, he always changes him first while Aiden is screaming bloody murder. When I get up, I never change him because eventually (fingers crossed) he is going to sleep all night and I wouldn't wake him up just for pee. And for the record, Aiden has only pee'd out of his diaper twice, and both times were during the day and totally my fault.

This. My hubbs takes the early feeding and always changes him, I take the later feeding and don't change him until mid morning at the next feeding. He doesn't complain so why wake him?

  • DS ALWAYS poops around 2:30 AM, gotta love that...
  • Only if it's poopy, which rarely happens at night.  We use Pampers Baby Dry at night and they hold lots of pee!
  • i stopped changing him when he started sleeping longer stretches.  The other night though he peed through so we are making an effort to change him again until we figure out if it's him or the dipes. :) I always skip a changing unless its dirty.
  • Yes every time she gets up.
  • We started using sposies at night for this purpose.  It hasn't made him sleep longer, but it's def. easier to get him back to sleep if we don't change him.
  • only if he poops and is bothered by it, or has a blowout

He does most of his poops in the morning, one in the afternoon and usually one in the evening.  It's very rare that he poops in the middle of the night

  • Zack sleeps much better if we change him every time, so yes. He absolutely hates having a wet diaper and will scream bloody murder until it's changed. (Oddly enough, he has no problem sitting in a poopy diaper,)

  • DD gets up about 3 times every night and I change her atleast twice. She seems to always fill up her diapers and if it feels heavy I change her because it usually also feels cold. Which I think would make sleeping hard having a cold wet diaper on
  • I only change my daughter if she poops..and of course she wakes right up..I have yet to wake up to a wet baby or crib : ) and she also sleeps a good 6-8 hours after I first put her down for the night and then gets up again maybe 4 hours later to eat

  • For the first 2 months or so DD would get fussy around 2 am but not wake up completely.  I would change her diaper while she was still sleeping and she'd be back in a deeper sleep before I could get her to her crib.  After that she'd sleep another 3 hours or so.  No wet crib, no diaper rash, and best of all, a still sleeping baby.
