Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Intro and WWYD ?

Hello all,

I'm new here ,as of yesterday. When I went for my NT scan at 11w6d, all that was there was an empty sac. They did nto say if I m/c'd, or if it was a blighted ovum.

Now my options are:

1. m/c naturally

2. take some medication to m/c

3. D&C

I've already had a pregnancy loss this year, wherein I took misoprostol at 16 weeks. It was NOT fun and quite painful. At my 6 week post appointment, my Dr. saw some clots in my cervix, tried to remove them and I started to hemorrhage, so I needed a D&C. I'm not sure I want another D&C, but I don't know if I can handle the misoprostol, or the bleeding or any of this...

Which one did you have and why?

Thanks for your advice, and I'm glad this board is here.

Re: Intro and WWYD ?

  • I planned a D&D.... But then I started to m/c naturally.  I ended up having a D&C anyways... It was a great decision.  It all happened so fast and it was over before I knew it.... For me, I just wanted it to be over and I wanted to move on.

  • I am so sorry for your losses. I opted for the D&C twice (at 12 wks/2days and 8 wks/3days) because I just needed the whole thing to be over.

With our first loss, our baby was diagnosed at the NT screening with a genetic disorder incompatable with life (we do not know which one) and we opted to end the pregnancy to prevent any more suffering. This last time, the baby's heart had stopped.

I didn't want to deal with the waiting, and the bleeding - the d&c's were physically very easy to have and recover from.

Whatever you decide, good luck to you.

  • Personally, I would do the D&C.  I had a natural m/c last month, and it was horribly painful.  I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I know that the D&C is difficult, but it's fast, and you're not going to prolong it by waiting for a natural m/c or the meds, which could both end in a D&C anyway.

  • D&C.  Regardless of the other options you choose, you may have to have one after all of that anyway.  I'm so sorry you're going through this.
  • I've had 2 m/c.  With both I chose the misoprostol.  I'm scared of being put under anesthesia.  I will tell you both m/c were 2 different experiences with the pills.  The first was horrible.  I thought I was bleeding to death, there was so much blood.  The cramping was horrible and I was doubled over in pain.  My most recent m/c with miso was like a heavy period with no cramping.  I was surprised, and was expecting it to be like last time.  If I am so unlucky to have a 3rd m/c I will however chose a D&C so they can do testing as to why I would be having recurrent m/c's.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this again, it sucks.  It is hard to make a decision about what to do.

  • I don't have any advice on your question (my natural m/c went very quickly on its own), but I wanted to let you know you're in my thoughts and prayers.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  {{hugs}}
  • I am so very sorry for your losses. {{Hugs}} I had a D&E at 9 weeks. I chose that option because I could not handle the idea of waiting for my baby to come out. I couldn't handle the unknown. It was an area I had some control over in a situation that felt totally out of control. I had very little pain and bleeding after the procedure and would recommend it to anyone who has to go through this nightmare.

  • I have went through all three options.  I would choose a d&c any day over the other two.  My recovery was so much better than using Cytotec or having a natural m/c.

  • I tried to wait for a natural and when it didn't happen, I took misoprostol. It was very painful and I ended up in the ER. I had to get a D&C two weeks as I still had some tissue left. I didn't go under, just took some adavern and ibuprofen for the D&C. If I had to do it again (which I hope to never have to do), I would choose D&C. It was painless for me and helped me move on. I am sorry for your loss. ((HUGS))
  • I'm very sorry for your losses.

I went with the D&C. I just wanted it over with...the symptoms, the waiting, everything.

  • My Dr. discovered a blighted ovum at 11wks. I decided not to have a D&C. I thought it was important to go through the process naturally. I thought it would help me process what was happening to my body. If I m/c again, though, I think I will opt for a D&C. Looking back, I think it would have been easier for it to be over quickly. I'm so sorry for your losses. You're in my prayers.
  • I am so sorry for your losses:( I waited three weeks total to m/c naturally before I had a D&C. My body just didn't want to let go I guess. Its been two weeks since my D&C, and while I did have some complications from the procedure, I wish I would have done it sooner. It really helped me emotionally recover from the loss. I hope you find an option that works best for you.
