Does everyone use a paci?

Just wondering how many of your LO's use a pacifier?  And if you don't, did LO refuse it or did you never offer one?

We do not...she used it in the nursery in the hospital, but not at home,

Re: Does everyone use a paci?

  • We use one, it really helps between BFing sessions.

We use a soothie, no nip confusion at all, we've been using it since day 2

  • We do because the nursery at the hospital gave him one without asking me and when I tried to take it away he wasn't having it. You would think he was born with that thing he is so attached. He uses NUK and we haven't had any confusion issues

  • She only takes one on occasion.  She prefers her thumb:)
  • hell yes. we don't use it nonstop or anything, mostly for when he's really fussy or just in the car and nap time. he likes to nurse to sleep but he's a burper and burping him wakes him up so we burp then use the paci. or when we're out and about and i need to hold him off for a minute before getting somewhere i can nurse him.

we did the same for my first daughter, and never upped the size, just gave her newborn nipples and she just weaned herself at 6 months. she was never totally dependent on it and it became too much work to keep it in her mouth. it's just another helpful tool to have on hand.

  • they will take one if they are hungry and im stalling them. other then that they arent interested.
  • We aren't using one as of now- I want to firmly establish BFing before adding anything new to the mix. I used one for DS though, and will probably for DD as well.
  • We use one. She goes back and forth between the bottle, paci, and the boob. No problem with nipple confusion.

  • He will take one on occasion, but it's not the cure-all for him, unfortunately.  Usually he gets pissed off at it an spits it out.

  • She takes it when she wants it... no rhyme or reason.

  • I tried with both my kids because they just wanted to nurse constantly and neither would take it. My baby actually gets really pissed when he figures out nothing is coming out!
  • We didnt use one until 3 weeks when my nipples were raw from him using me as a pacifier. He only has it at night in his crib. It puts him right to sleep
  • We use one. It's got a very different nipple than our bottles, which I think is a great idea cause she can tell what she's got in her mouth (bottle or paci). It's easy to tell if she wants her paci, cause she;ll fuss at the bottle, but be content with the paci. I love the soother.

  • We absolutely do not use one. One more habit to break and nothing looks worse than a kid running around over using a pacifier.

For my older daughter, an evil nurse claimed she was "inconsolable" in the hospital and tried to give her one. She spit it right out. My MIL tried once too to giver her one since she had bought it for her.. she spit it out.

DD #2 we never offered one. I'm tempted occasionally since in the evening she some times uses me as one but we won't.

Both have never sucked their thumb either.

  • We don't.  We've tried but he keeps spitting it out so I just abandoned the idea.

  • We do.  We started using the soothie, but she had difficulty hanging on to that...now she uses the Avent pacifiers.  She really likes them...I tried to switch her to a playtex one, but she wouldn't have any of that!
  • Nope- she refuses

  • I keep trying to get DD to take one, but she only has a handful of times. The hospital never offered her one, and she was probably 2 weeks old when I finally broke down and tried it. She just spits them out.

  • We use Avent. He will pretty much take anything though. Though lately, with the way he sucks on his fist, he may end up a thumb sucker.

  • My son isn't wild about his but he'll use it occasionally
  • My daughter doesn't use one.  She's a week shy of 3 months.  We thought about using ortho pacis, however, we really didn't want to put her one one.  When she's feeling tired and is crying, she'll suck her thumb to calm herself down, and that's the only time she'll do it.
  • Most definitely!  He used it a lot up to 2 months, now he pretty much only takes it to soothe himself to sleep.  His choice, he's sorta weaning himself off of it.
