Poll: What major AP things do you not do?

- co-sleeping

- breastfeeding (stopped at 6 months due to low supply)

I'm sure there are more since I consider myself AP-lite. :)

  • I do not babywear all the time. I never did while home, and have not in the stores in a month or so.

I never BW at home anymore.  I did when DD was younger but now that she's working on walking and is exploring more, I let her do her thing.  The only time I've worn her at home recently was when I first got my Ergo and had to try it out. :)

  • BF and cosleep.   I failed miserably at bfing and we had ds in our room until 2 months but after that, he was too noisy of a sleeper.

  • I dont BF, my boobies are broken :(

Im sure there are other things but thats all the comes to mind atm.

  • Until last night, bed-share. His cradle in our room through the night and a few hours for a morning cuddle was fine, but last night he would only sleep in our bed.
  • I do not babywear. I tried when DS was a newborn and he screamed the entire time. I tried 3 different carriers and DS screamed in all three of them.

  • I don't babywear anymore. DS loved it when he was little but since he became mobile he hates it.

  • I didn't prepare/plan for a peaceful birth at all. I BEGGED my ob to induce me at the end. I didn't take any child birth classes (which I regret). I took any/all drugs offered to me. I actually begged the L&D nurse to use "any tools available" to get the baby out after about hour 2 of pushing. She refused, and Em was born around hour 4 of pushing. Ugh.
  • I weaned my first at a week old. I weaned my second at 15ish months (pregnant with hyperemesis...couldn't continue). I weaned my third at 11.5 months. I didn't have any milk after 11 months, but continued to try. I quit at 11.5 months. I did give it everything I had, but just couldn't make milk after 3 very unhealthy pregnancies in under 3 years.
  • Extended breastfeeding (will more likely wean at 12 months)

We will transition to the crib between 6-7 months also.

  • I stopped BFing at almost 6 months because of supply problems

We stopped co-sleeping at 5 weeks

  • Co-sleeping....I seriously think LO sleeps better in his own bed.  He konks out and looks so relieved to have his own space when he's tired.  However, whenever he doesn't feel good,  or  we just need more snuggle time he comes into our bed.  I just do what feels right for his needs on any given day. AP medium:)

  • I used to do BWing & Co-sleeping. However, I'm short and she simply got too heavy for the Moby. Now I just carry her around the house and use the stroller out & about (which she loves!). We stopped bed sharing at about 9 months (when she became mobile) and we moved the crib to her own room at about 10.5 months. She sleeps so much better now. I think those things were good for us at the time, though.
  • I don't BF as I also failed miserably at it.
  • Co-sleeping.  Neither of us sleep well together.  I do bring him into my bed in the morning for snuggles and nursing but no sleeping happens...regretfully ;)

  • I would say co-sleeping (stopped at 7 mos) and extended breastfeeding (stopped at 14 mos, when I was 5 mos pregnant).

Except, he 'weaned' himself from both of these things, so I feel that following his needs rather than 'forcing' the cosleeping or bfing is more AP. (Or maybe it's just what I tell myself to make me feel like a good AP parent?!) Smile

  • bedsharing.  Although he did sleep in our room next to my bed until he was a year.  I plan to do something similar with baby #2.

Didn't do the cloth diapering thing-although I don't think that is AP necessarily.

Didn't really carry him once he was mobile himself.

  • We don't bedshare on a regular basis.  DS has slept with us maybe 3 times since coming home?  (He and I had a fabulous nap at the hospital where he slept on my chest.)  We do have him sleeping in our room in the PnP beside our bed, but DH is uncomfortable with having DS in the bed with us, so I guess I have to respect that.  :(

  • Same for us - cosleeping and BF'ing. Although, DS has a cold and I convinced DH that if he has a bad night I want him to sleep in the PnP in our room (especially since he's getting sick and it's freezing in there - surprisingly he didn't argue).

I think those are the big ones that we basically skipped.

  • Cosleep. She sleeps great in her room, why mess with what's working?

I didn't prepare for a natural or peaceful birth (it did end up being unmedicated though). Does that sort of count? lol.

  • DD has been in her own room since she was 6 months old, but we exclusively coslept before that.

I also don't BW anymore. She's a big girl and I'm petite and it got to be too much for me. She doesn't like it much anymore now that she's mobile anyway.

  • We don't babywear as much as some do.  Last time I wore DS was on Saturday (granted, I work FT and he's at daycare all day - I suppose that's another non-AP thing, but not by choice).
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

  • I took Bradley classes and then ended up saying yes to an induction for lack of much fetal movement. I was too scared to wait things out.

We set up a cradle in our room and then Wes ended up in the crib within weeks because we'd lay him there for naps to watch him on the video baby monitor and noticed we all slept better. We've tried to bed share a few times since, but we're not really set up for it and now he wants to move too much anyway and it's hard for him on our bed.

I was a total quitter when it came to BF.

  • bed share...ds snores way too loud!
