We're stuck in a rut again with lunch and dinner for the boys. Our usual stand-bys are getting the brush off. And of course they won't try anything new we try to give them. I was lucky enough to get them to eat quesadillas again today.
Any new and/or tried and true favorites that your kids are eating?
ETA: Also any ideas on how to get them to eat more variety on fruits? We're still stuck on applesauce, apples, and raisins. They used to love peaches, nectarines, grapes, and berries. Now not so much...
Re: Stuck in a rut with lunch & dinner for LOs
I have been making P sandwiches using Orowheat Sandwich Thins, I make everything from peanut butter and jelly to cheese to melted cheese sandwiches with them. I cut them into 4ths and he eats it all. (they sell them in big packs at Costco if the boys end up liking them)
For fruit, P is not a fan. So, while this probably isn't the most healthy, I give him a small squirt of whipped cream for him to dip his fruit in. He loves it and eats a ton when I let him.
We really need to invest in a good blender or juicer here. We have been buying the Odwalla or Naked SuperFood juices...Ty LOVES them. I am pretty sure he'd drink frozen smoothies and there is so much you could sneak in those!
Otherwise, I have been meaning to pick up some of those sandwich thins.
Ty is just like the boys. Eating variety decreases everyday.
PPs have great suggestions! Whipped cream is a new staple for my girls. You can also try other dips like honey, yogurt, peanut butter and cream cheese. We also do a sweet "pizza" - bread topped with sweetened cream cheese and sliced fruits. My girls love smoothies too. They like the TJs Very Green juice. It has veggies in it too
I'm in the same boat with fruits. She just can't stand any except raisins! She really dislikes the texture. It's frustrating, but she loves most veggies so I try not to worry. The child eats more broccoli than any human should (I'm not a broccoli fan).
One of her tried and true favorites was a suggestion from this board: the turkey meatballs from Trader Joe's. I also made these Mac & Cheese Cupcakes from Giada last week that DD and my nephew devoured. They have ground turkey and veggies in them so it was a one stop shop for lunch.
