That's awesome!!!!! Does that mean you won't be collecting any sort of maternity leave or short term disability pay??? I told my company I'm out on leave as of January 8th, and that I'll be coming back April 1st, but I am NOT coming back - I only did this to collect 6 weeks of short term disability! *tisk tisk* I know!
My H's job is currently being switched from contractor to permanent position. As soon as he gets the word that it's a 100% done deal, I'll be putting in my two weeks notice here. I cannot freakin' wait!!!!

Our office doesn't offer any paid maternity leave or short term disability. If they did, I would be doing the same as you. And I am not on their insurance so that doesn't matter either. So, since telling them early doesn't affect my pay in anyway (unless they tell me to leave before the 18th) I figured I would let them know.

Congrats to the OP!
I'm doing the same thing, waiting to tell them until my disability is up I told them I'm taking 10 weeks so they have a month's notice.
There are several reasons for women doing this including 1. gaurenteeing you get your short term disability 2. they would lay you off with no notice in a heartbeat 3. you have to do what's best for your family meaning getting a few extra paychecks 4. You are only required ever to give 2 weeks notice that is part of the professional relationship
