  • Everything I had heard pointed to yes, it would be. Mine was not faster, but was easier. My first labor was 6 hours and painful as all could be. My second was a 10 hour labor and I was honestly never in any pain. I was induced with pitocin both times. My first I was overdue and my second I was induced 8 days early and I honestly think that's why it was longer.

  • Definitely.  I had really bad morning sicknes and was sick every day, all day.  I also got two colds, a UTI and Kidney Stones.  It was fabulous (note sarcasm =)

ETA:  Disregard my post.  I read that as 2nd TRIMESTER easier than my 1st.  Apparently I can't read today Wink

  • They were both pretty easy, but my second was a piece of cake. It was an induction, I went from 3 - 10 cenitmeters in under an hour, pushed for exactly three minutes, and he was out.
  • Yes.

1st labor: 4 hours, got epi, active pushing for 40 minutes, some pain, felt sort of drunk

2nd labor: 3 hours, no pain meds, active pushing for 6 minutes, worst pain imaginable

I preferred the 2nd b/c although the pain was a million times worse, it went much faster and I bounced back more quickly afterward. For example, I had DS2 at 1030am and by noon I was eating Chipotle for lunch. :-)

  • It was shorter. Delivery was faster, too. (Though both were very fast.)

Easier? Eh...it's complicated. With #1, my water broke on its own and my epidural worked. With #2, my water didn't break on its own, and my epidural didn't take, so I was writhing in pain trying to keep DS2 from crowning while we waited for my damn OB to arrive.

But if you're talking about other aspects of L&D, I had an easy time both times, with the second time being easier.

  • I hope so, seeing as I'm going straight to the scheduled c/s this time and not waiting 26 hours first.

  • I am really interested to hear the posts.  I am considering a pain med-free birth....labor with B was only 12 hours with 45 mins of pushing.  Hoping for the 2nd to be quicker.
  • Yes! How's it going BF?  as with everything else all people and delieverys are different though. I thought my first wasn't very bad either. However this second time was so fast and easy. I was induced with my first DD at 7am and started pushing at 2 and at 2:26pm she was born.

with DD2 I started slight contraction on wednesday. They got close and intense around midnight so I went to hospital b/c of how fast dd1 came with being induced. I was at at 4cm when i check in. Contraction slowed and stopped until about 7-ish. the doctor checked me and I was at 6cm. She walked out of the room and I had the urge to push.so i asked my nurse if it was possible for me to feel the need to push. she says well we just checked you but it's possible so she checked me and it was go time! I pushed for 15  minutes and she was here.

  • Actually, yes, it was easier (I had back labor with my daughter) and it was faster.
  • Yes and no.  I was induced with DD#1 and went on my own with DD#2 so DD#1 was much harder and more painful, of course.  DD#2 was shorter in the sense that officially I was admitted to the hospital for 22 hours before having DD#1 (started with cervadil and then the pitocin) and less than 4 hours DD#2.  Funnily enough, both my girls came almost exactly 4 hours after I got to 4cm in both cases and under totally different circumstances.  With DD#1, they broke my water at 4cm, I went from 4cm to 9.5cm in an hour, the epi combined with pitocin combined with those hard contractions caused DD's heartrate to crash (long story) but recovered when they turned off the pit.  They turned off the pit for an hour an a half b/c the woman in the room next door needed an emergency c/s and DD would recover if we turned off the pit (same doctor).  When they came back, DD was past my cervix and basically crowning.  With DD#2, I went into labor naturally.  They thought about sending me home but kept me an extra hour "just in case" (after monitoring me for 2 hours with no change).  I was at 4cm in 20 minutes, epi took 45 minutes to get in and then never really worked (took the edge off for maybe an hour if that), my water didn't break until my first push at 10cm.  Both girls were quick deliveries too - less than 3-4 pushes and less than 10 minutes pushing when we got there.  So once I get to 4cm, it's 4 hours...or at least it was with both the girls.  Ask me again after this one.  With no epi, he may come even faster.
  • It was WAY faster and much easier the second time.
  • Easier?  No.  Faster?  Um, heck yeah.

I was in labor with Erin for about 24 hrs, pushed for 15 min.  I had back labor, but was still on top of the contrax and had a med free labor and delivery.  I had an episiotomy with her.

I was in labor with Connor for 3 hours.  OMG, the pain.  I had back labor with him as well, and accepted a dose of Nubain.  1/2 hr later he made his appearance after less than a minute of pushing.  Oops.  I tore front, back and sideways with him.

I had 1 whopping hour of regular contrax with Kate, and only a few contrax that I felt in my back.  It was med free, and would have been a walk in the park, as far as labor and delivery go, if she hadn't had decels and a nuchal cord x3.  I also bled more than I should have.  No stitches were needed, and after a couple of hours, I felt fantastic, though.

  • Yes, the pregnancy was a hell of a lot worse, but the delivery was much easier.

I was induced at 39 weeks with both of them. With my daughter I had Pre-e so I had to be on magnesium during the labor/delivery. That slowed down my progression. But it still wasn't too bad minus how crappy the mag made me feel. I had a 100% effective epidural and only had to push for 20 minutes.

With my son I was induced with cytotec orally. I never needed anything else. 1/2 a pill sent me into full labor. Eventually I did have my membranes ruptured and got my epidural which was also 100% effective. I feel asleep, woke up a few hours later to mild pressure. The doctor showed up and he was out on the first contraction with only 2 quick pushes.

  • yes.  neither was terrible though...

1st: induced at a little over 38 weeks due to PIH.  pit started at 6:30 PM, got epi the next morning (9ish), was at 10cm by 11:20am and DS was out at 12:09 PM.

2nd: went into labor on my own a little over 38 weeks. admitted to hospital at 4cm at about 10pm.  got an epi the following morning.  pushed for about 5 minutes and she was born just before noon.

  • I can tell you're still in the beginning stages of your pregnancy because I'm getting to the point where I would take ANY labor to get this one birthed and out.

Oh man - this sounds like heaven!

  • YES!!!!

1st time was 26 hours of labor, long recovery, in general "blah" sort of experience.

2nd time was less than 2 hours, easy, easy, easy.  I was up walking around not long after delivery and was home less than 24 hours later.  Recovery was a breeze.  The easy L&D was what convinced me to have more kids!

  • i sure as hell hope so my first was 45 hours of labor with an epis with a tear to a 3rd degree
  • All of these stories are giving me hope!

However, I want to share a story.  A friend's sister had 3 girls, went natural with all of them, easy as pie, no tearing, fast labours, you know, the kind we all dream of and she had 3.  And she loved being pregnant.  Gag.  Anyhow, 4th baby was over a week overdue, she had to be induced, laboured for some crazy amount of time and ended up in an emergency c-section.  She was traumatized.

So, anything can (and will) happen!

  • Yes! and.....SO MUCH FUN! Really, we had a blast in L&D! Good times!
  • Easy first labor ... about 12 hours.  Epidural.  Pitocin.  15 minutes of pushing (5 good pushes), he was out.  9 pounds, 4 ounces.

REALLY easy second labor ... labored all day, was at the hospital for about 5 hours (or so).  Unmedicated (planned).  3 big pushes, he was out.  7 pounds, 14 ounces.
