Exercise with baby

I had my DD by c-section 7.5 months ago and haven't lost all the weight I wanted to.

Lately it's been rainy here, so I've been walking around the mall. Yesterday I walked for an hour, but I know I should be doing more. I'm really watching what I eat and drinking water. So my diet thing is good to go right now.

But I need some pointers for indoor exercise. I can work out a total of 3 hours a week right now, because of work and baby. I realize I won't lose all the weight very quickly, but I at least want to be in shape. And this tummy has GOT to go!

Advice? :)

Re: Exercise with baby

  • Treadmill or eliptical.  Cardio!!  Before our beach wedding, I wanted to lose just a little weight.  So, I forced myself to run.  I've ALWAYS been totally out of shape ... never played any sports growing up or in school.  I smoked for 6 years too (quit 2 years ago).  I lost about 15 pounds and looked great on my wedding day! (went from 159-145)

I'd only run 3-5 times a week for 10-15 minutes at a jogging pace.  It's kill me!  But, it sooo helped.  That and cutting down fast food and pop to only once a week.  That's ALL I did!

Check out craigslist ... you can buy some machines for pretty darn cheap!  That way, no gym membership.  Baby can nap and you can run!  :)

  • I agree with the other poster-- a treadmill is the best, because you can use it whenever you want, day or night and no matter the weather. Check the after-Thanksgiving or after-Christmas sales. We got a really nice one for about $600-- it inclines, has a built-in ipod dock w/speakers, built in fan and two large cup holders (one for water, one for the tv remote!). Obviously, the less bells & whistles, the cheaper it will be.
  • start with treadmill and increase the incline...then as you start to feel stronger, decrease the incline and increase the speed...to start running try a 5 minute warm up walk, then 1 minute slow jog followed by 2 minutes walking...repeat 5 (or more) times...then cool down walk...that is how you can start to incorporate running into your treadmill sessions...you can use this for 20-30 minutes of a treadmill session and still be able to walk an additional 30 minutes without feeling exhausted or over doing it:)
  • To get a good treadmill is a HUGE investment (at least 1000). Otherwise they are pretty crappy.

I would do netflix and get exercise videos from them, or get some home resistance training equipment. Or both.

Check out the Muscle Bar and the Mommy Muscle system. They are both great and much cheaper.  mommymuscle.com.
