May have turned a corner RE: puppy

I think that we may have turned a corner with Lola.  I had her at the vet last week for her vaccinations and they found out that she has hookworms.  They have treated her and it is like she is a totally different dog.  She's actually laying at my feet right now instead of biting me or attack everything in sight.  We are still going to get her some training, but I don't feel like it's a hopeless situation any more.

Can worms really make a dog that nutso?!

Also, while you dog people are reading this, tell me your favorite chew item for your dog.  Thanks!

  • Awesome news!  Well, not that you have a wormy pup, but that's she doing better. ;)

Worms can definitely make a pup uncomfortable.  As far as chewy stuff goes we really like Wubbas, Bad Cuzs, and bully stix (don't ask what they are lol - just buy).  The Merrick brand chews are all pretty good.  And, not a chew toy, but a busy toy - the Buster Cube!

  • Ditto the Kong, also recommend the rubber toys sold at Petsmart - we have the chicken and the cat.  Not indestructible but as close as we've come to it
  • Another vote here for the Kong!  We have a wolf hybrid (who is an AMAZING dog, and absolutely gorgeous), and he exerts 1500 pounds of pressure, per square inch, with his jaws (that's twice the strength of a German Shepherd, just to give you an idea).  The Kong is the only thing that has withstood him.  He loves to have it stuffed with things...lunchmeat, dog treats, hot dogs, bread, etc. and it will keep him occupied for quite some time to get everything out.  He doesn't like peanutbutter (he has a sophisticated wolf palate I guess!), so we don't put that in there, but for our other dogs if you just put some in the bottom of that thing they will concentrate on that forever trying to lick it all out; and won't leave it alone until it's gone!
