PSA and Rant re: Portrait Innovations

Portrait Innovations = CRAP!!!!!!!!  There's nowhere on their website to send complaints to so I'm going to make sure I tell everyone I know to stay away from that place.  Here's what went wrong:

1.  Appt was at 12:30pm and we didn't get seen until 1:05pm.  This was after the guy called our name then promptly walked off.  He came back a few minutes later and called someone else's name that was behind us.  When we asked him why we were skipped, he said "because you didn't speak up when I called your name".

2. No apology for being so late and making us wait.

3. We specifically said that we wanted a plain backdrop, no Christmas setting.  When the guy walked us to the Christmas setting, we told him what we wanted.  He replied with "Sorry, that room isn't available right now.  We'll do that room next.".  So basically we were forced to take pictures in the Christmas setting.

4. When we were finally done with pictures (during nap/quiet time for our kids, mind you), the same guy started going through all the proofs with us at lightning speed.  Of course the best pics of our kids were in the Christmas backdrop (Murphy's law, I guess).  While we were choosing which poses we liked, he was going over the prices so fast that I couldn't comprehend what was going on.

5. During the ordering process, our kids all started melting down at the same time.  We ended up ordering WAY more pictures than we wanted and spent WAY more money than we wanted.  I felt the guy took advantage of us and intentionally wasn't forthcoming with our options and pricing.

If you've read through all this babbling, thank you.

  • oh no!  I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

  • That sounds really terrible. Working with children you would think they would know better. I am so sorry you and your little ones had to deal with that.
  • I'm so sorry!  I have been to PI several times and have had one bad experience but nothing like what you had to go through!  There is one photographer I CANNOT STAND and request not to have him.  He is lazy and it just gets me all worked up.  (I go to the one in Champions.)

  • I went with my friend when she to my godson to get his 3 month photos taken.  We went to Sears and it was the same process.  They should really let you order online or come back because he was in full meltdown phase by the time we sat down to order.  And as a new mom, she was in full panic mode.

Here is the real kicker - there are 9 grandkids on my mom's side of the family.  As kids, we went yearly to get photos at Penny's or Sears.  I don't know HOW our parents didn't kill themselves, each other or us year after year.  Imagine 9 kids ages baby to 11 running around Sears during the holiday season.  To this day, I think the mom's must have been boozing it up or something.

  • Oh no! What location was it? (Is there more than one?)

I've been pretty happy with my experiences there but I've also never been during the holiday season and I'm sure that makes it about 100x worse. My only other experience is with Sears and I had a horrible time there with looking at proofs/picking pictures/figuring out the pricing.

  • sorry you had a bad experience, but we have gone there for all of DD's pictures so far and they have done a great job.
  • Boo!  So sorry!

I haven't used PI myself, but other places like it.  I must say that I agree that I HATE when you have to fight for the background you want!  Exact same thing happened to me at a place where the best picture of the girls was on a background I didn't like. boo hiss!

  • I?m sorry you had such a bad experience.

I?ve had good experiences at the one on Bay Area Blvd, but I haven?t ever gone during the holiday season.

I did learn they will try to oversell you so you need to stick to a pricing game plan.

AND it?s hard because they take a ton of pics so you WANT to buy all the shots.

AND to get a CD of the images even for little wallet sizes you have to spend over $100.
