BFers who bedshare

Do you burp LO after a night time feeding?  Neither DS nor I totally wake up for feedings anymore (one of the many reasons I love bedsharing), but he's been so gassy lately that I'm thinking I need to start burping him overnight.  It totally wakes him up though.

What do you all do?

  • I never burp LO anymore... when I sit him up he usually burps himself.  You could try propping him up in the bed for a few minutes?

  • The one time I tried to nurse DD in bed, I wondered about this.  We were both so comfortable - should I burp her?  In the end, I got her up, burped her, and put us both back into our own beds (we had crashed on the guest room bed).  In other words, I have no idea about this.

  • I don't. She has also been waking up kind of gassy, but, like you, neither of us really wake up for feedings so.....
  • When we did, I didn't.. But maybe just prop him up on your shoulder for a few minutes to see if he'll do it on his own.

  • Nope, no nighttime burpings for us either.  Like you said, it just wakes us both up which stinks!  But, I have also found that LO doesn't take in much air at all when he's feeding in the side-laying position.  So, even when I would burp him, he would rarely burp, if this makes sense.  Good luck!

  • No burping here.

See, this is what I don't get.  DS does some of his best nursing at night.  He's not distracted since he's pretty much asleep so I don't understand why he's so gassy lately.  I haven't started eating anything different.  Hmmmm.

  • I do burp her...but she falls right back to sleep on my shoulder.  Burping has never completely awoken her.
