Good morning ladies,
I have a question for you all about Omega-3 supplements. My drug store did not have a lot of options, so I bought Nature Made. It says it has mercury that is less than .1 parts per million. Is this safe? Do you have another brand you would recommend that is better?
Thanks!
Re: Omega-3 and Mercury
I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the reason for the mercury is because your supplement is based on Fish Oil - the easiest way to get Omega-3s (but in my opinion the grossest... that stuff smells!). So fish oil > fish > mercury....
My suggestion would be to find a prenatal that has "DHA" in it (I asked my doc for "Concept DHA", it's a single capsule that's easy to take), or to eat lots of Flax seed (you can buy it in a box and make muffins or smoothies out of it), or buy products fortified with DHA (I can find milk with added DHA at my grocery store). For me, these are a lot easier than fish oil supplements and shouldn't have any mercury.

BRU sells Prenatal vitamins with DHA. Also, some women have been advised to just take Flinstones vitamins (they also contain DHA) with an additional Folic Acid supplement.
Fish oil is stinky, but its good for you. However, if you are concerned about the mercury, I would hold off while pregnent.
