MMR vaccine-- anyone split this into 3?

DD's 9m appt is today, and it has got me thinking about her 12m and the MMR.  So far we just followed the AAP vaccine schedule, but I'm more inclined to play it safe with the MMR.

Anyone successfully split this into 3 shots?  Did you do the alternative vaccine schedule from the beginning?  Did your pedi have to order it special?  What months did you do what?

Just wondering how to navigate this!

  • Sorry I don't have the answers to your specific questions...but I thought MMR was given at 24mos??? Maybe it's just too early in the morning and I can't think...

  • I was planning on splitting ours up into 3, but my friend who also does an alternate vaccination schedule heard a rumor that they can no longer be divided up. I will have to ask pedi about this, but we still have time before LO is scheduled to get it.

This is true. The vaccine company stopped splitting it up and you can no longer get them individually. I have heard talk that it may become available ni 3 parts again in 2011, but that hasn't been confirmed.

When it was available separately, we would have gone to the county health clinic - my pedi wouldn't order it that way. We didn't want to wait until 2011 to start her MMR so we're getting the combo, but delaying it until 2 years instead of getting it at the recommended 12 months.

  • Unfortunately, I think that the drug company has decided not to split the vaccine at all now, not even in 2011...I think i got that off dr sears site.  We are on the alternate schedule. We are going to push mmr back until probably 2 plus years.
