I think it's pretty. Feminine but not frilly, different but not weird.
Some people from the East Coast may think of Avalon, New Jersey, which is a nice, quiet, upscale beach town at the southern end of the Jersey Shore. It's a good connection to have
possibility...but it's the name of a pretty popular car. Guess it'd be the same thing as a Mercedes or something like that.
you're right. didn't think of that not quite as obvious as mercedes though!
Huh, that never even crossed my mind. I thought of King Arthur.
It didn't cross my mind either until after I went back and read the comments. I was trying to remember but I keep thinking there was a Disney tv show series a while back like early to mid 90's that was named that after the girl main character...I may be thinking of something else thats close to it.

I think it's pretty, but you might want to consider the car association. That wasn't the first thing that came to my mind -- I thought of King Arthur -- but it might be the first thing that others think of.
I actually tend to cut parents some slack with the name Mercedes, although I know not everyone does. Mercedes has a long history as a name (the car was actually named after a girl with this name) and comes from a title for the Virgin Mary, Maria de las Mercedes -- Mary of Mercies. It's often rendered in English as Our Lady of Mercy. So, if the parents pronounce the name Mehr-say-des, I assume that they meant to name their daughter after the Virgin Mary rather than the car company. (There are better ways to name your daughter after the Virgin Mary, but hey, maybe they have a particular attachment to that title for her.)
Also, make me think of Avonlea as in Anne of Green Gables. Not sure wh it came to mind.
Avalon I think would be better for a middle name. it also means "Island of Apples" which i'm into meanings of names... so it would never work for me.

The car is the first thing I think of but it's also the name of a Christian music group.
Mercedes is actually a traditional Spanish name that refers to the Virgin Mary (Santa Maria de las Mercedes or Our Lady of Mercy). My great grandmother was named that.
Proud Mama to Mickey (12.03.09) and Nemo(06.06.13)
Oh, and to the point of the post, yes it's a car, but I like it. And I don't usually like really unique names. It won't be a car 20, 30, or 50 years from now.

Mercedes is a Spanish name that was used long, long before the car was introduced to America. It's pronounced Mer-ce-des, not Mer-say,deez, like the car.
Avalon seems like one of those trendy names that will make you wonder "What the he11 were they thinking" in a few years.

Just to clarify, I wasn't saying I had anything against Mercedes. I was just making the connection. The car is the first thing I thought of because a lot of people drive them where I'm from.

reminds me of a nightclub that used to be around here.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
There is a christian vocal group called Avalon. Google them. They are really good. How are you pronouncing it? They pronounce it {AV(a-apple)-uh-lawn}
