I never trusted those drop sides, Im not surprised to hear that they are being recalled.
I saw this on the news this afternoon and Im curious which ones are involved.
when i saw the news i worried for a second that our crib might be involved (MIL bought us a drop side crib) but then i figured that all our laundry and bf-ing pillows cant really be hurt by drop sides so all was well with the world again.
It's amazing how much fear of co-sleeping is perpetuated in the media when cribs are recalled constantly. Is anyone else old enough to remember when SIDS was nicknamed "crib death"?
Yeah - like I said on EFF, # 2 will just HAVE to bedshare until he/she can be in a toddler bed, at least. I can't do a stationary side so ... at least that can shut the ILs up when they ask if we'll need another crib, eh? lol

Ditto. I was adamant that we would not get a dropside crib. I've never felt they were sturdy enough anyway.
do you mean 'bed share'?because several parents do cosleep with the crib in the room.
also, it says that it accounts for a dozen deaths over the years. cosleeping has the same #s. i believe 36 in the past 3. the odds of suffocation in both instances are very low.
really we do what we feel is best as parents. this comment is a little off given that some people have lost their children. if bedsharing works for you that is nice. but it doesn't and isn't safe for everyone. cribs are part of things and it would be nice not to be mocked after a tragedy.
Oh FFS. I wasn't making light. I was saying I am thankful that my kids don't sleep in cribs because there have been a $hit ton of crib recalls in the last 6 years that I've been a parent.
And seriously...do you know how often it's thrown in faces of co-sleepers/bed-sharers when there is ONE death that they attribute to co-sleeping? It happens ALL. THE. TIME.
And co-sleeping, when done with parents that aren't drunk, high or stupid as rocks actually reduces the rates of SIDS/crib death. So go bark up a different tree.so you just like to do the same thing and then get angry when someone suggests it might be inappropriate?

Um no. I just get a bit annoyed when people come her using an AE just to stir up trouble. Especially when they are taking out their ass and being obnoxious.
i have stats saying over 500 children died in 7 years in the US from suffocating during bed sharing.
i bedshare and i find that very sad. i also find suffocating because of crib malfunctions sad.
it isn't a competition in tragedy or parenting. you arent better or worse than someone who does or doesn't have a crib.
i dont understand how commenting is stirring up trouble. i didn't know the rules about agreeing with everyone all the time on here.

Maybe it was the comment. Or implying that I was in any way making light of the fact that children had died when I simply said this recall was another reason why I was thankful that we co-sleep. There have been a lot of recalls in the 6 years I've been a parent and the fact that cribs are so unsafe does scare me.
