I'm so sorry you have to have one. I haven't, so I have no advice for you, but just want to wish you best of luck. Can I ask why they're having you do one so late in your pregnancy?
Good luck!

I had one around 18 weeks. It was no big deal. Barely felt anything. The anticipation was much worse than the actual procedure. Don't stress yourself out about it, the flu shot was more painful.
I didn't have one, but was urged to. I was told that they would put a topical numbing cream, do an u/s to see where the best place is to insert the needle (away from the baby), and then withdraw the fluid. I was told it takes about 2 minutes with the needle. The side effect of it at this point in pregnancy is pre-term labor. Good luck, I know it's scary.
They are actually doing it the day before my scheduled c/s to make sure babies lungs are mature enough. Im delivering early due to being in preterm labor since week 31 in the hospital on bedrest 4cm dialated and 60% effaced contracting every 3 mins, then I found out my previous uterine scar looks like it might be coming open, and THEN last week they discovered my baby is measuring two weeks behind and are now concerned that my placenta may not be working as well as thought. So early delivery it is.
I had one; it wasnt the most pleasant think I've done in my life but it was tolerable; I'm not going to lie, it hurt but luckily it's over pretty quickly; you can also post on Pregnant after 35
aw, it sounds scary, but it's really not.....you feel the needle go in (more as pressure) until it gets to your ute....as it goes in and stays in. it feels like mild cramps...it's only for 2 minutes, tops. that's it, i promise. gl!
I had one wiht my first pregnancy, and it really wasn't bad at all. I didn't feel the needle, just the tiniest bit of pressure. I stayed on the couch most of the day after, and was fine.
I was suppoesed to have one with my last pregnancy, but he couldn't find a pocket of fluid big enough. Try not to worry, it really isn't any worse than a blood draw.
