I had no time for an epi. Start to finish labor was only 4 hours. I did get a shot of nubaine, but I still consider it as natural because there was no relief associated with it at all. May as well have never gotten it.
I wasn't allowed to have an epi but I can't consider it "natural" because I had morphine early in labor. Still, it's pretty close!
I consider this natural! Seriously, what is a little morphine for labor pain?
30+ hours of Pitocin induced labor. YUCK. And no, morphine didn't do shiit. But they say natural means no drugs, no induction, etc. Though in my defense my OB did say that what I went through was 10 times harder than a normal "natural" birth. The end result was worth it though!

I had a "real" natural birth as you describe here and I totally agree that what you went through sounds way harder!
When I got to L & D I was 3cm. They hooked me up for an hour to monitor me before deciding if I was a "keeper." At that hour check, I was 6cm and the nurse exclaimed, "Oh...I should get the doctor." I demanded pain meds and started freaking out b/c I knew that if I dilated any more, I wouldn'd be getting my epi, so they called the epi guy and it took 3 nurses and 4 tries to get an IV going and of course no epi until IV is started. The epi guy came and my OB checked me an hour after I was 6cm and they said that I was fully dialated. I demanded pain medication of some sort. I thought they would give me something via the IV since I knew I wasn't getting the epi I so desperately wanted. The epi guy instead gave me a spinal block which allowed me to rest for about 45 minutes before starting to push. I pushed for 2 hours and for the last hour, the spinal block wore off and I felt everything! I would consider myself going natural.
Re: ? for those with the "I went natural, just not by choice" badge
My epi failed
I've never seen that badge but I'm sure that's why it was used.

OH that is depressing. I would have cried! I was so sad that it took mr.epi-man over an hour to get to me!
I NEED THAT BADGE!!!
Or a half-natural badge. Two epis, both failed at transition. I did transition & delivery sans medication.

You ladies are TROOPERS!!!!! I am so impressed by those that go it natural.
It hurt even with an EPI!
THIS exactly for me! Man, oh man! I still can't believe I made it!

My (5'2", 100lb) SIL had everything planned out from beginning to end, including the epi and whatever other painkillers she could take in labour.
Her contractions didn't start until her water broke. An hour and a half after her water broke, she delivered her 8lb 14oz baby boy.
(She tells me all the time that she tore HORRIBLY.)
Oooh girl. I DID cry! It was the ugly cry, too.
I'm one of the girls in Team "I did transition and delivery w/o the epi." Tiny was posterior, so I had crazy back labor and tore pretty bad.
There is no font size in the universe big enough to express how badly it SUCKED.
::shudders at the memory::

Yeah, my labor was about 3 hours total. The epi guy didn't get there in time, but did come in to apologize after. Gee thanks...
I was completely natural, no pit, no drugs of any kind, almost didn't even have an IV since they had issues getting it in.
I'd do it again if I knew it would be that fast, the recovery was sooo much easier than when I had an epi with DS.
