I know Jamison is trendy right now but I never saw the appeal to name your son after liquor and one of the most famous porn stars ever. It is a nice name but I think the sex and alcohol association negates it.
That being said, I don't think your DH has to be named James to use it. And I like the whole name together as well as JJ.

I never thought of those 2 facts until Jingles brought them up- I like the personally but those 2 things may misdirect some people on the name (ps- I never knew it was a liquor- where have I been?)

I don't think the father's name much matters - we've really gotten away from that tradition when it comes to names ending in -son. But, I don't really care for the name. For me it is just too wrapped up in the whiskey brand, even if it is spelled differently.

What a prude! I like alcohol and sex and I thought of neither of these associations, probably because I've met people with both first and last names of Jamison. Now that you mention it though, I think it makes the name that much cooler.
People who worry about such things could find a negative connotation with any name.

I personally don't like the name.
I don't know why Jingles opinion makes her a prude...the OP asked for an opinion and she said what she thought of the name...

What a strange thing to say.
People who would call "prude" because someone associates the name Jamison with the famous porn star come off as having some issues that they're a little overly defensive about...
Re: Boy name opinions please
Jamison makes me think of Whiskey.
Jamie and JJ are NMS.
So in short: Me no likey.

1. I like the name Jamison, but I'm not really a fan of Jamie or JJ (that's just my opinion, obviously--I tend to be a bit more traditional).
2. No, I don't think it's silly to name your son Jamison if dad's name isn't James. Honestly, I would have never made that connection.
Thanks.
Just an FYI - the liquor is Jameson - with an 'e.'
This, FWIW.

I know, but that doesn't NOT make me think of the liquor just b/c it is spelled differently.

Still sounds like Jameson the whiskey, AND that the brand is so well known just means people will misspell your son's name frequently.

I think Jamison John is cool. I like that he has options as he gets older to choose whether he wants to go by Jamie, JJ, Jamison, whatever.
I like the name Jamison. I don't think it's silly to name your son Jamison despite the fact that his father isn't James.
I don't care for the nn JJ though...but then again I just don't like nn in general. We aim for names that cannot be shortened.
I personally don't like the name.
