Trying to Get Pregnant

Update of appointment. (Long sorry)

Well it looks like my doctor and even her nurse like charting. They think it's very helpful and my doctor even took the charts and looked over them for a few mins. She doesn't believe I am ovulating either due to the charts. ::sighs::

After doing an exam, she wants me to do some blood work. She says I have most of the textbook signs of PCOS but wants the bloodwork to confirm it. Plus after saying certain symptoms have gotten worse over the years and after BC, it seems like PCOS. The bloodwork that has to be done is for all of my hormones, thyroid and insulin resistance.

She suggests if I want to move on to getting pregnant than seeing a RE would be in my best interest since she does not specialize in the fertility area. So after I receive my bloodwork and what the results are, I will move onto a RE. If I want, I can continue to see her for meds for PCOS and insulin resistance and see if that will help with my cycles before seeing a RE. She said I should be in no rush to see a RE because I am only 25, if I was 35 she said she would understand going straight to the RE. If I want to go back on BCP, it can help with PCOS and I can TTA a bit. (I guess going back on BCP helps some women start to regulate their cycles and help suppress certain symptoms.)

I asked her about the no fertile CM, it may not produce it due to hormone levels. Being on BC which has the added estrogen is why you produce it. I will just have to wait for the results she said. For the spotting before every period, she said most of the time it's due to not having a long enough LH which is vital for pregnancy. But she says for me it looks like I don't get it because I don't ovulate.

Bleh.... since I had breakfast this morning, I will just have to take the test tomorrow morning and wait for results to find out the next steps.

  • It sounds like you have a great doctor. Did you feel that way?

At least it's a step towards figuring out what's going on and getting it taken care of. Sorry it wasn't good news, though.

  • Sorry you didn't get great news, but it's nice to see your doc is running tests, etc. I feel your pain of not ovulating. It is very frustrating. Best of luck!

  • Your OB/GYN sounds very thorough.  Don't stress too much until you get the bloodwork results back.  Will she do an ultrasound to check for cysts too?  Did she recommend any certain REs?  I'm curious because I live a little south of you and there aren't any in my area so I will have to travel north if I do go that route.

For now, we are just waiting on the blood work. We never spoke about starting on any sort of drugs that was for insulin resistance or PCOS. She wants to take it one step at a time, plus I didn't want to rush in asking about it yet.

I told her I did testing and the u/s back when I was 18/19 and they didn't find anything. She states that you won't always pick it up with an u/s and bloodwork.

She recommended a male doctor that was in the very same clinic, which is in downtown Tacoma. Plus she told me and another bumpie told me about Seattle Reproductive Medicine which is in North End Tacoma and one in Seattle.

I hope that is close enough for you.

  • I do like my doctor and her nurse. VERY nice people, warm, friendly and I like the tone in their voice (I know odd).

She never rushed me and answered my questions throughly. I liked her a lot, I would like to stay there. But the RE she suggested in her clinic is a male. I am just uncomfortable about a male talking to me about female parts.

I just feel you can't speak about something you don't have. No matter how much you have read, tested or seen.

Thanks!  I think the Tacoma area is the closest I'll get.  Good luck to you.  Definitely take it one step at a time.  It can be so overwhelming to get a lot info all at once especially when you start to go through the what ifs.
