my first pregnancy took us 1.5 years and 8 months of that with fertility specialist. when I got my bfp, my beta was 15 and prog. was 1. I was immediately put on progesterone shots for first tri and had a successful pregnancy.
for baby #2, we were giving it 6 months before calling doc. Cycle 5 we got a bfp....shocked to say the least. however, I miscarried and again had low levels with a beta of 57 and prog 8.5.
I have to wonder if this is going to be a trend or just a coincedence. Anyone else experience this? if so, how did you handle it?
TIA!
Re: anyone w/history of low hcg/progesterone?
With my first m/c my beta was fine but prog was low- I was already bleeding at that point so nothing could be done. With my second pregnancy my beta was good and prog started out good but dropped so I was put on vaginal supps until 14 weeks and we had DS. My third pregnancy turned out to be a very early loss but at the time of my BFP my OB put me on the prometrium again just to be proactive. Since the pregnancy never got far enough to do any testing I am not sure of the numbers, but it appears to be a trend with me as far as the prog goes.
HTH, good luck to you!
thanks!
with this previous pregnancy, I was also put on prometrium when we got our bfp, 200mg.
I am going to request from doc that I start the prometrium right after I O. That is what the specialist had me do...1 dpo I would start progesterone supplements. don't know if that made a difference or not but too much progesterone can't hurt...its the lack of that makes such a difference :-(
1dpo is too early to start the prometrium - it should be around 3-4dpo. you CAN take too much...
I had major issues with this, and for ME, the secret "cure" was 400mg vaginally each night during my LP.
hi davezwife! I remember your nemo from ttc. When we were with the RE, I had my iui, confirmed O with u/s the following day and started progesterone 1dpo. I had 6 IUI's so those cycles were always the same protocol as far as progesterone. He specifically told me in OUR case too much progresterone would not be an issue because my levels were always so low. perhaps the prometrium is different from the prog. oil shots and supplements? idk...I am meeting with OB next week and will have a list of questions for the OB. If they don't give me straight answers, then I am calling RE.
My pro is always 18.9 a week after ovulation but then falls and when I got bfp both times they were low @ 8 so I was on Endometrin vaginal inserts and now Im may be m/c again now since my hcg dropped..
I may request some more additional tests.
I can't remember the exact reason, but starting the p4 too close to O stops the estrogen train or something, and you need to start it later. I've had docs be VERY clear about that. Hmmm.... let me know what comes of it. I'd be curious to know what the "right" start time is.
GL to you... this road sucks.
I've had 5 m/c all very early with very very low hcg. Only on my last was I tested for progesterone and it was 0.55 at 5 weeks (I actually had what appeared to be a period the 5 days before my surprise positive pg test when I went in for a x-ray).
My RE is suggesting clomid reasoning that my ovum quality must be poor and he'd rather try to fix that than treat the "symptom" (low progesterone). But until we can start that next cycle, I'm going to try prometrium pills this month since I already had them from that last m/c (doctor ordered them but I miscarried before I could start the treatment).
