  I like the name Charlotte Jane.

  I personally don't really think it's either Southern or French. I live in Charlotte though and there are a lot of little girls named Charlotte down here. I think it's just gaining popularity all over the US.

  I love it (obviously).  I don't think of Charlotte as being Southern at all.  I think it has both British and French origins.  I know it's very popular in the UK, so I always think of it as a British name.

  I have a question - how are you planning to pronounce the name?

  I only ask because I pronounce it SHAR-let (emphasis on the 'shar') and I've heard others pronounce the name shar-LOT (emphasis on the 'lot')...which I thought was odd.

  I guess more emphasis on SHAR-let. I was thinking her nn could be Charlee (shar-lee) or maybe Charlie (like the boys name-- its DH's grandpa's name). Or Chari (like sherry).  OR maybe no nn. I don't really like nn too much.

  Love the name.  Both are very classic.  Charlotte is definitely French in origin, but yes there are a lot of southern states with cities named Charlotte or Charlottesville.
