Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Where does your baby sleep at night?

Our LO is in a side sleeper in our room for now.  I am thinking I'd like to transition him to his crib soon, but something in my just isn't ready.  And the silly thing is, is his bedroom is right across the hall.  It is literally 10 steps away.  We wouldn't even need a monitor, but of course I have a video one.  Why I am not ready to move him is beyond me.  He makes so many little baby noises now, that it is hard to sleep with him right next too me.  DH is doing his best to talk me into it.  I think the first night in his crib will be the hardest.  Where does your baby sleep?

  • in our bed, between us, usually tucked in between my arm and body.

  • DD sleeps in her bassinet in her room.  Moving her from our room in the bassinet to her room in the bassinet was the best/easiest thing we could have done.  We just have a monitor on in our room at night and it works perfect.  We moved her to the nursery at about 6 weeks.  I am trying to get her used to her big crib now and that is a challenge ...
  • We moved him from the bassinet to the crib at 3 weeks for this exact reason!!  Neither of us could sleep with all his noises!! He is right across the hall & both of our doors are open so I can hear him still when he fusses, it's just not right next to my head!!

Still, he usually sleeps atleast one of his stretches at night either on the couch with me, in the bed, or in his swing.  I give up after trying to rock him to sleep after about 10 minutes and resort to whichever of those things work best!

  • My plan was to put him straight in his crib from day one. However once we got Trent home DH decided he needed to be in our room for the first month.  We had him in his PNP for the first 4 weeks then put him in the crib. The first two nights were hard but then it was great. Trent sleeps better and so do we, plus its kind of nice having our bedroom back to just us!
  • I am so with you!!!  He sleeps in the pack and play in our room and I'm not ready to move him either.

  • We moved her to crib at 1 mo. Before that she slept in her bassinet in the living room and I slept on the couch.

  • DD sleeps in her crib.  Although the last 5 nights she's been sleeping all night in her swing because she's congested and the pedi said it's best not to lay her flat until the congestion is cleared up.  We do have a sleep positioner but it's not elevated enough.

  • She starts the night in the bassinet next to us and ends the night tucked up into DH's armpit.

  • DD either sleeps in her pack n' play next to our bed or in my arms.  DS slept in his pack n' play all the time until he was older.  We're in the same set-up as you... DD's room is literally right across the hall.

Our issue is that she spits up small amounts and always seems to "choke" on it.  It freaks me out, so she won't be by herself in her crib anytime soon.

  • We had LO in our room for the first month in a co-sleeper between us. One night I just decided it was time, there was no point in DH having to wake up (I'm BFing) in the middle of the night when he has to work in the morning. LO transitioned really well, he actually started sleeping longer (he has 6-8 hour stretches almost every night and has since just after we moved him). Having said that, the right time is different for everyone.

  • In his bassinet or PnP, depending what floor of the house he is on.

We are not putting him in his own room until he is 6 months old. Public Health recommends they sleep with a parent until then.

  • DD sleeps in her crib. We don't have room for a bassinet in our bedroom and her bedroom is right across the hall. We have a video monitor and she has slept in her crib since day 1. She does fine and I think we sleep better with her in her space and us in ours.

  • In her carseat next to the bed. We cosleep sometimes but if she's OK in the carseat I leave her.

EDIT: We have a bassinet in our room but she won't sleep in it & we also have a crib in her room. Pedi suggested we put her in the carseat because of her reflux.

lol I didn't want to maek it sound like the child didn't have a place to sleep!

  • He sleeps in his crib about 15 steps from our bedroom.  We have a video monitor so I'm always watching him.  At about 3 weeks, he decided he didn't like his crib so he slept in the PNP for a few nights then he was fine in his crib again.

Who knows what his little issue was?!

  • We just put him in his crib last night, at the urging of my DH and the pedi at our appt on Friday. ?He definitely cried and was up more often that he was in the PnP right by my side. ?Here's to hoping he gets used to it quickly!! ?

  • In his crib, down the hall in his own room.  JD and Matty each lasted about 4 weeks in a bassinette in my room.

  • He slept in the pnp in our room until Friday night.  We moved him to his crib in his room and he has done just fine.  I thought it would bother me to have him down the hall, but we are managing just fine.
  • Our little one slept in our room in a pack n play until she was 3 weeks old. We transitioned her to her crib so that DH could actually sleep at night.  He was always waking up to every noise that she made when she slept. She did fine in the crib and her room is right across the hall.

  • In our bed.  I won't try to transition to the crib until he sttn for a week.  I might transition him to the bassinet before that though.  I like him right next to me though!

  • She slept in the PnP in our room the first week and then we put her in crib. It is healthier for us and her - everybody sleeps better. I am BF so when she wakes up I go get her and feed her in our bed and then put her back in her crib when she is done.
  • She started to sleep in her crib in her room about 4 nights ago.  It's gone really, really well.  I can say that the initial thought of moving her was much harder on me.  She actually sleeps a longer stretch now.  Before that, she was in a PnP in our room.

    This exactly.

  • LO is still in our room.  Partially because the window treatments for her room aren't finished yet, and I'm not the best at moving while half asleep.  Maybe if she would sleep more than two hours at a time...
  • DD slept in the PNP until 3 weeks old with occasionally taking naps in the crib. I wanted to keep her in our room til she was a month old but it ended up working out better for everyone putting her in her crib. So far so good. Her sleeping patterns aren't any better or worse where ever she sleeps
  • on my chest until she falls asleep,  then tucked under my arm in our bed. was definately NOT the plan (wanted to put her in crib from day 1) but she will NOT sleep any other way. oh well - i love having her with me all the time anyways :)
  • In his crib. He's been there ever since we came home from the hospital. I don't mind getting up to feed him.

  • He sleep with me for the 1st month at about 6-7 wks I tried him in his crib and he slept so much better. So now he sleeps in his crib in my room. I wish he had his own room because he's a loud sleeper and I think I might be waking him when he sleep cries. It's hard to wait out a cry when he's in my room.
