DH and travel during ER?

I always have to plan for the worst case scenario..what would happen if DH had to travel the day of my ER? Would it be possible for him to freeze a sample? I'm on Lupron now and know he is travelling the 17th of December and am just trying to ease my mind. Thank you!

  • Fresh sample is preferable but a frozen can be used if necessary.

We did this for IVF #1... we never had to use it though. My dh was traveling a lot for his job and I didn't want to risk it. Good luck :)

  • Thank you..that makes me feel much better.
  • My clinic recs that you freeze a sample as back up.  Even if he's there for a fresh sample that day, the clinic likes to have more on hand in case there is difficulty producing or an issue with the sample- then the frozen is back up or can be used to supplement fresh.

I'm sure it varies by clinic, but this was $850 at ours.  Since my husband travels for work, we felt this was a neccessity.  Not to be totally morbid, but we also had a what-if discussion leading up to IVF on all the tragic things that could happen and how having a child figures in.  If my husband passed, and this cycle didn't work, I'd still want to have his child, and a frozen sample allows for that possibility. So, we signed off on all the paperwork that would allow for that, too.  Sorry if that's creepy or TMI.

This..My clinic doesn't require you to freeze sperm but suggest it for those just in case emergencys.  It cost us 375$ to freeze DH's sperm...

  • Thanks so much for the information. I didn't realize it was such a common practice. That is very helpful!
