Breastfeeding and dentist?

I have an appt. for a cleaning tomorrow (hopefully no cavities!) and I just wanted to make sure that a dentist visit is compatible with nursing.  I know this is probably really over the top, but I totally forgot to ask my Dr. and I just want to be sure.  I can't imagine anything they use gets into the breastmilk...

Re: Breastfeeding and dentist?

  • When the hygienist asks about your general health, medications, etc., tell her that you're nursing. I had a cleaning and check up yesterday. I ended up needing to have a filling replaced. He put a rubber drape in my mouth to make sure that none of the chips of the filling he was removing were swallowed. He said that it wasn't any real risk anyway; he just wanted to be extra cautious.

  • I've had a root canal and like 7 fillings since DS was born and every time I go I tell them about BF'ing and it has never been a problem.
