LO's weight vs. Belly Size!

Do you think the size of your LO has anything to do with your belly size?? I am starting the induction process tomorrow night.. How much do you think my LO will weigh??  Do you think there is any correlation at all between your belly size and LO's weight??? I haven't had any growth ultrasounds so I have no clue what he'll weigh!!!!

Re: LO's weight vs. Belly Size!

  • I really don't. My belly was larger with my second and he was over a pound less than my first was.

  • Usually if you are measuring way ahead the baby will be larger.  Some women are just large and have small babies and vice versa
  • Well if my belly is any indication, I am going to end up with a 25 pound kid.  I feel like my belly is much bigger looking than how far along I am.

  • I haven't had any growth ultrasounds either, but doc estimated around 7-8lbs two weeks ago.  But I'm thinking he'll be closer to the 6-7lbs range.  I'm not sure I've gained that much, but who knows?
  • I was big to begin with, but my bump doesn't appear to be big - just kinda more filled in.  My baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead though. *shrug* I dunno.
March 21, I find out how far along we are. :)
  • I have no idea but I'll make a random guess: 6lbs, 6oz.

I'm pretty bad at guessing, but I thought I'd give it a try :)

    Good luck tomorrow!!!!

  • I just asked this at my last appointment because some lady at church said "OMG your baby is going to be HUGE...like 8lbs!!" #1, I don't consider 8lbs huge. #2, I have only gained 18lbs so why would she think that? So my MW said that she would guess LO is around 6lbs and it has more to do with heredity than anything, unless you have GD. DH and I were both around 7lbs. My sister actually gained 100lbs during her pregnancy and her son was 6.7lbs.
  • No correlation IMO...my friend just had her baby on time..

he weighed 9lbs 5oz and she had a veryyy small tummy gaining only like 15lbs the whole pregnancy..

  • No, I don't think there is a clear correlation.
  • I was HUGE last time... gained over 60lbs... my son was 7lbs 11 ounces.  My best friend barely had a bump  and her daughter was over 9 lbs..

  • My MW told me there's no correlation between belly size and the weight of the baby. I actually asked her if LO was on track for development because I felt like my belly was on the smaller size.....she said because I'm tall and have a longer torso my belly just doesn't stick out as much as someone who is shorter would.
  • No, I don't think there's a correlation. This whole pregnancy people have been telling me I look small, yet DH and I were both 9lbs at birth and after 2 growth ultrasound (@34 and 38wks) LO is measuring up to be about a 9 lb'er at birth too. She is currently measuring (aprox) 8.1lbs as of a few days ago, which puts her in the 75th percentile. FWIW I have gained 30 lbs.
  • ditto to the first poster...my belly was HUGE with #1 and DD was a peanut 6.5lbs! my belly this time is about the same or smaller and the baby is measuring MUCH bigger...i think belly size has more to do with the baby's position and movements
