Stay at Home Moms

Nervous about Black Friday shopping

This is the first year I am going to attempt to go out.  BRU has a glider and ottoman set for $149.99. I wasn't going to buy a glider but for that price, I can afford it.

My mom and I are planning on hitting BRU...they open at 5 am. In your experience- what time do you suggest us getting there?  I am worried about getting up early, getting in line, finding the item, etc. and being disappointed if I can't get it.

Re: Nervous about Black Friday shopping

  • When I've gone out early, I go at least 2 hours before the store opens, but I've never been to BRU or TRU.  If we want more than one thing, we split up after grabbing carts and then try to meet in a non-congested aisle to compare what we have/what we need.

It's actually really fun!!  Just make sure you bring something to drink and dress for the weather.

  • For something like that I probably wouldn't show up more than 30 minutes before the store opens.  There will probably be people waiting in line outside the store but I doubt they're all going to be running for the glider.  It'll be mass chaos when the doors open, everyone will run to what they want to buy, then everyone will stand in line forever to pay for their stuff.  After you're done shopping, go home and take a nap!

  • Some of the deals are online at midnight too. Check online first. Also, a lot of stores match prices so if they run out go to a competitor and get the price matched. I have done the early shopping and it is INSANE!  Weigh the options. I also got my glider at a yard sale in amazing condition for $15.
  • Here's my advice.  Don't do it.  Instead, go to Target when you feel like it and not deal with the crowds.  They have nice, comfy glider and ottoman sets starting at $139.99.  It also has good reviews.  Here's the link...

Sometimes the stores don't even have the item listed in the paper in their stores.  Or they have a select few.  Trust me, I've been there.

The wood doesn't match all my furniture Embarrassed  And I know if we buy it with the intention of trying to sand and re-paint it it will never get done. And it will bug me if it doesn't match.

We have an armchair and ottoman that I moved into the nursery that looks beautiful in there and is perfectly comfortable (big, overstuffed and cushy).

I just WANT a fancy glider, LOL.

I was going to say the same thing.  One year I went to Best Buy really early to get something for DH.  I had to park about a mile from the store and when I got inside I found that they were sold out.  I was sad and left to go to work.  Once there someone suggested I look online and there it was... the same item, same price, and free shipping.  I could have saved a lot of hassle if I had checked first.

This year I really want to get something that Walmart has.  DH is off on Friday so if it's not online I'll run over and see if they have it in the store.  I'm also going to Children's Place early since they usually have a percent off the whole store deal in the morning.

  • Dress in layers.  If it's cold, switch off who gets to sit in the car until about a half hour before opening.  I would try to get there 1-2 hours early.  I think most of the rush tends to be for the smaller  stuff.
