HPK lines not getting darker....HELP!!!

I took a FRER Friday (12 dpo) and there was a faint line, but you could still easily see it. Took another FRER this morning (14 dpo) and the line was the same color...still really light. I am freaking out b/c I thought I was having a chemical pregnancy. I took a cvs digital hpt 4 hours later and it was positive. I am calling my ob tomorrow to get a beta. but shouldn't hpk lines be getting darker??? That has me really really worried. I'm trying to stay positive-a positive hpk is positive, but I would like reassurance, I guess!!! Any comments/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Re: HPK lines not getting darker....HELP!!!

  • They do not always get darker.

    A line is a line.

  • hpts are qualitative, not quantitative, so there is no guarantee that the line will get darker.  Put the pee sticks down and call your doctor for some betas.

    Congrats!

  • I freaked out about this as well.  :)  Quit peeing on sticks!!  If you must take another one, wait until a few days past your missed period.  I found mine started to get darker then.

    Good luck and congrats!

  • thanks :)  that makes me feel better!!!
  • My lines on the FRER were always very light.  I ended up taking a dollar store test and a digital to confirm.  The dollar store test was very dark and the digital came back "pregnant."

A line is a line.  Call your OB.  Congrats!

  • I tested for 3 days after my first BFP hoping to see that super dark line. It never got darker (got lighter one day!). So, I stopped testing. At 7w I had some spotting so I freaked out and took my last HPT and had a SUPER dark line. . . finally.

  • It took nearly a week after my BFP for my lines to get darker, especially with my $ store tests. I would not worry about it, like previous poster said, these tests are qualitative not quantitative. A line is a line! Congrats!!!
  • The darkness of the line can vary with the amount of dye that's in the test, which is why a line is a line.

    Stop taking tests, you're pg!

  • This worried me as well. I always thought the lines would get darker, just sometimes they don't. Try not to let it worry you and congrats on your BFP!

  • HPK?

    Home Pregnancy.....Kit??

Ok, yeah - the lines don't necessarily get darker.  Hell, I got positives at home and negative pee tests at the dr. office!  I was still pregnant though.
