Emmie has a TERRIBLE rash where her bandaid was! help

She LOVES those Nexcare Tattoo bandages and wears them like stickers. She had two on her hand and wrist that she kept complaining about for the past few days but wouldn't let me take them off. I just figured maybe they were pulling at her arm hair and bothering her. She was just crying in her bed and when my hubs checked on her she showed him how the bandage came off and there is a terrible red, raised rash where it was. What do we do?

  • is she allergic/sensitive to latex?  also, some bandaids have different adhesive on them and if there's a reaction that can give a rashy red reaction. S has had both the latex and adhesive reactions.

    maybe some benadryl cream?

  • Ahh! Thanks, Minnas. A lightbulb just went off for me. It's probably a tape-burn from the adhesive. I get that, too, from bandages. Thank-you for your response!

  • ditto minnas...

I'd probably put a bit of neosporin on it and give it a day.

  •  J gets that too- from certain band aids. the rash lasts a long time, too- which seemed weird.

we put some benadryl lotion on it...I don't know if it really helped or not. it took awhile to go away.

    good luck!

    Ditto this.

When I was in the hospital recently, they used tape that had latex (which I am allergic to) in it for my IV. I got a bad rash, and a few sores from it. You could see them thru the tape because it is clear.

A little bit of benadryl cream should clear it up pretty fast.

  • Ditto everyone else.  Celia also loved band-aids and would wear like 10 at a time:)  I never thought much of it until she got horrible blistery rashes.  I rushed her to urgent care once b/c they were SO bad.  The dr said she was probably allergic to the adhesive.  I haven't put band-aids on her since then.  She had to be on steroids and benadryl for a few days.
