Does Lovenox contain Mercury?

I've been on it for about 18 weeks and I just thought to ask this now. Thanks!

Re: Does Lovenox contain Mercury?

  • I cannot find anything saying that Lovenox (or Hepirin) contains mercury.

  • The Lovenox prefilled syringes and graduated prefilled syringes are preservative-free and intended for use only as a single-dose injection. The multiple-dose vial contains 15 mg benzyl alcohol per 1 mL as a preservative

I got this from the lovenox website: https://products.sanofi-aventis.us/lovenox/lovenox.html#Boxed%20Warning

Themerisol (mercury) is generally used as a preservative, so I think that if you are using prefilled syringes you are safe.

  • Not sure about that.  I am just curious were you diagnosed with a PE?  Last pregancy I had 3 PE's with no true diagnois as to how I got them.  I am now pregnant again and in my 40s (just found out 5.5 weeks) and was told that as precaution might have to take injections again.

What is a PE? I haven't heard of that before. I have Leiden Factor 5.

Did they not do any clotting testing on you once you were no longer pregnant?  Anytime you are pregnant you are at an increased risk for clots and PEs but there can always be a genetic component as well.  I developed a clot shortly after I delivered my daughter but was lucky to catch it before it went to my lungs.  One doctor chalked it up to my recent pregnancy but my ob did a full range of tests and it turns out that I have a Protein S deficiency which makes me even more likely to make clots.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • You are right they did do a series of tests, I was border line on all of them and they told me that there was a 50/50 chance that I could get another PE in additional pregnancies.  So I when we started thinking about another little one (more me than my husband because he's afraid that this time I might not be so lucky.) I went I got a full physical and spoke to ob.  I am to get in as soon as possible to her and probably start a protocol to prevent this happening.

Did they have you go on to Lovenox?

Yes, immediately after I found out I was pregnant I was put on a preventative dose of Lovenox, so I inject 40mg twice daily and will throughout the pregnancy and for at least three months after the birth.
