I don't want to spend $$$$ on crib set (vent)

Am I the only Mom (to be) who doesn't want to spend $300+ on crib bedding? Really I'd like to spend $150 or less. I am having twins so I need to be super practical. I also like the idea of buying separates. I am not insulting moms (to be) for spending that much. I just can't wrap my head around it...probably because I can't afford it. But still...

Re: I don't want to spend $$$$ on crib set (vent)

  • There are tons of options for 150 or less.....
  • Loading the player...
  • Then you defintely should not spend that much. You can easily find what you need for less. But who cares what other moms do?
  • We didn't buy a bedding set, just separates.

I think bedding sets are adorable, but a waste of money.

  • we have a place here that is called bickels..it get stuff the gets damaged package thing from the stores or from trucks that may have been in accidents. I got a Crib that was $99 the same crib was $400 at sears and then I found a crib set that was $150 for $50. Maybe you could see if there is a store around you that is like that....Or try Ebay!

  • I refuse to spend more on my baby's bedding than I did my own.  It's kind of been my mantra throughout this pregnancy.  I wouldn't normally spend $40 on a tee shirt, so I'm not going to spend that much on a maternity one.

I did manage to find a bedding set that was reasonably priced and that we both loved.  If I hadn't I was considering making my own or going the separates route.

  • I won't be buying a bedding set.  All you really need is a few good sheets, and a thin cotton blanket.  If you want to pretty up the cribs, find a skirt that you can get as a separate.
  • Go to amazon and type in baby bedding.  I found a lot of complete sets for cheap prices.

  • personally i would prefer to spend under $50.  i would like separates also.  its just going to get alot of puke and other lovely baby liquids.....
  • The set I found if we have a boy is on amazon.com (or there is an ebay seller who sells the same set, brand new, for starting at $50, for a $200 set).  Remember to check all your options.

I always see baby bedding on registeries too.  I'm not doing that since I don't want to reveal the gender until the shower, but for most that's an option.

  • I got a bumper, sheet, blanket and skirt for $40. I just bought a diaper stacker seperately for $10 and voila, everything I need for $50.
  •  I think its such a waste to  buy a crib set to begin with. First, infants shouldn't have blankets in their beds, suffocation hazard, so you can't use the blanket that comes with the set. So what, you hang it on the wall? Thats a pretty expensive wall hanging. And then its recommended to not have bumpers, another suffocation hazard. I know people use them. So you're left with the sheet and skirt and maybe the window covering. I wouldn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on 2 or 3 pieces. It all looks so cute yeah but it's really a waste.

  • Right there with you sista! Except for the twin part. More power to yah for that part.

  • I think 150 is even a lot!  We got Jack's for something like 110.  It's really cute.  It came with the blanket (hung on wall), bumper (hung on wall like a border), skirt, one sheet, and matching diaper hanger.

As Irish said, there are lots for less than 150!  Plus, if you go to one of the major baby places like Buy Buy Baby or BRU, they have the 15/20 % coupons often.

  • Check out Target!  They sell cribs for a great price.  That is where we registered for our crib...it's $160...the Graco Lauren.

Target also has a Baby Sale at different times during the year...I think they are due for one soon, so you might be able to get the crib for a little less then.

  • I think crib sets are a total waste, plus I don't like matchy matchy anyway. We had two sheets, a few ultimate crib sheets, and a crib skirt for our 18 month old. I plan to do the same for this baby plus a breathable bumper.

  • I didn't buy any crib set for DD and I won't  for this one.  Just sheet sets and a white breathable bumper.  I don't see the point of them other than to look pretty and I wouldn't use bumpers or quilts anyways.
  • I got mine at marshalls for 70.00 that and I paid 16.00 for the mobile. heres a LIP. I was not going to get a bedding set either this time, but I lucked out on this one!     https://www.babysupermall.com/main/products/coc/coc7033-794.html?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=ComparativeShopping
  • I'm not buying a crib set...a baby can't use 3 of the 4 items anyway (pillow, blanket, bumpers). We are just buying separate sheets. We also bought a cute crib skirt. Good luck!
  • Don't get bedding then, just a sheet and skirt will be more than enough.
  • I spent $75 on mine. its a 4 piece but I wouldnt use all those fansy spansy accessories anyway. I got it new at Wal Mart and plan to use it again with DS#2, Im all about practicallity and finding the best bargains and steals. Your blessings won't care about how much you spent on bedding and trust me... when that explosive diaper happens(because it will) you'll feel better knowing that it happened on a cheaper set than something Armani designed :P
  • The bedding sets are a waste of money. You get a bumper, which you aren't supposed to use. You get a comforter, which you aren't supposed to use until they are toddlers. You get a ruffle, which doesn't fit quite a few cribs.

The only thing you can use is a sheet.

We just have individual sheets. Dwell Studio at Target has some really adorable patterns. I suggest you look at those.

  • There are tons of options.  I got my DD's bedding off of Ebay.  And it was a complete set from PBK.  I didnt spend that much.
  • I just bought separates of the sheet, skirt and bought a breathable bumper.
  • You don't need a quilt... we NEVER used ours.  so really all you need is fitted sheets and a bumper (if you choose to use one).  Even places like PB sell single sheets (to allow for doubles) but people like me only by the sheet, not the pricey set, mwah ha ha!
  • I'm getting the bumper, quilt and skirt from PBK for $189. I'm using sheets from BRU and I'm making my own curtains.

The set from PBK is a lot higher quality from any of the other sets I like that are 6 pieces and I don't need the extra things.

This.  And there is nothing wrong with separates if that's what you like.  Get what you're into & don't worry about if it's a "set" or not.

  • whoa!!!! $300+?? Where are you looking?  There are bunches and bunches of options cheaper than that.  I plan to register for crib bedding, but only b/c we are getting so many things second hand... a crib, a travel system, swings, pack n plays etc.... I need something "big" on my registry for those people who just like to go in together or get you big ticket items.  Still, I plan to register for a set that is, at most, $175.  Higher than that seems absolutely ridiculous.
  • There are tons of things you can get. I bought separates because I didn't want all the things that came with the set and it was about $100 for everything so you could probably save a little that way.

  • We spent $45 at Target for a sheet, skirt, and blanket.  With the $20 gift card for registering, we only paid $25.  Since then, we have just purchased some single sheets.  We didn't get a set because I couldn't fine one I liked, but I'm happy with what we have.
  • I bought my DS' bedding on Craigslist.  It just so happened I fell in love with a discontinued Babystyle set and that was the only place I could find it.  It was used, but it didn't matter.  I only paid $35!

We're getting that crib as well..but at Walmart online. Did you know it's at Walmart for $120..with shipping to my house it's only $130 altogether.

Anyway, back on topic, the set I'm looking at is only $50. I'd love to spend even $150 on a crib set because I've seen some super cute ones but heck I don't even spend near that on my own bedding! haha

  • Check out the PSA post a few above this about crib bedding.  Amazon has soho brands on super sale right now.  Some of them are 10 piece sets for $40, and some say "below cost" as well.  That's an even better deal than you can get at second hand stores.
  • You're not the only one! lol

DH and I bought a crib set at IKEA (super cheap for here in Beijing) and sheets from there are well.

We don't really believe in spending lots of money on babies since they don't remember anyway.  We do, however, put all the extra money we WOULD spend on that crap into a university account which we feel is a much better investment.

Oh, and our kid will mostly wear hand-me-downs too and have secondhand strollers and toys.  Call us cheap, but we have no debt and our mortgage is almost paid off (which gives us a $400 000 asset in the bank).
