Acne

I know that this question has probably been asked a million times on this board but what are folks using to combat acne?  I've read conflicting information about using anything with benzo peroixide and/or saliyic acid so I'd like to try to avoid those but my breakout has been very embarrasing.  I've actually been using Clean & Clear that has bp in it but it's not working.  I'm in my 30's and this is ridiculous!

Re: Acne

  • I'm in the same boat...  my doc wouldn't give me the okay for anything w/sa or bp in it just yet, so I don't have much to work with.  I've been alternating between using Cetaphil cleanser and some pineapple cleanser thing by Alba.  It seems to be a lost cause, though, w/all these hormones at work.  My skin looks awful.  I have seen other people post on here, though, that they got the okay to use products with bp in them.  I think as long as it doesn't have any sort of Retin-A / Alpha Hydroxy Acid that it should be ok, but I would check with your doc just to be sure.

  • I am really leery about using the chemicals you mentioned on my face right now.

Before, I got the Belli face wash (specially for pregnant women) and it didn't do anything for my skin.

I am currently using the Mario Badescu glycolic face wash and it has made an improvement.  Bummer is that I can only use it three to four times a week since it's drying out my skin.  I am considering getting the enzyme gel for the other days since I am seeing improvement in my skin at last.

Good luck, and remember; you're not alone!

  • I too have not gotten the OK from my doc yet, but everything I can find says that my ProActiv face wash/creams are OK during pregnancy. They have benzoyl peroxide.

I'm more worried about salicylic acid (that's what Asprin is made out of so I can see why that would be a problem). It's in my body cream.

I did read somewhere that stuff you leave on your face is bad (masks and creams) but that body wash or facewash can do little harm for the short time it's on your body.

  • My dermatologist prescribed Finacea.  I used it this week because I started to break out on my chin and just using it twice totally put a halt to the breakout.  So far so good but I know it can get much worse...so I just have my fingers crossed.
  • Someone here recommended Aubrey Organic face wash, toner and cream and two days in I already see a difference. Though I am running to the bathroom now to make sure they don't have any of the chemicals you mentioned! If it's organic it should be ok, right?
