Potty seat reccomendations for girls

Hi -I'm just starting to read up on potty training as my goal is to start with DD after Christmas.  How did you decide on a potty chair vs. the potty seats that go right on a regular toilet?  Which is better to start with?  And what do you use when you're out -at the mall, at grandma's, etc?  Lastly -what potty chair/seat do you like best for your daughter?  I was going to get the Baby Bjorn seat but then I ready some reviews online saying that the 'pee gaurd' got in the way for their daughters and that there is no way to take it off.  Maybe the Baby Bjorn Little Potty would be better?

Thank you for all of your advice!

Re: Potty seat reccomendations for girls

  • First we tried the on-the-regular-toilet potty seat, and she didn't like it.  We bought the Fisher Price Royal Stepstool Potty (the one just for girls) after that, and that's what we use now.  It plays music when she pees/poops, which she loves.

At my parents' place, they have a Winnie-the-Pooh potty that is basically just a potty chair.  It's ok, but DD doesn't seem comfy on it because of the "splashguard" on the front (it's gender neutral)  Not so much luck on that one.

At the mall....well, we're not quite there yet, so it's Pull-Ups for us and changes in the car, lol :)

  • We have the Fisher Price musical potty and DD has loved it since day 1. Fortunately, she's never had a problem using the regular toilets, so I haven't had to carry around a folding travel seat (I just put plenty of toilet paper on the seats). I'm sure there are good seats out there to fit over the regular toilet, I just never found one I felt was sturdy enough, and we have Toto toilets and I felt like everything fit kind of funny. • I went for the little seat that goes on the regular toilet because I didn't think I could handle cleaning out a mini potty. We have the Munchkin toilet ring (DH had to modify it a little so it would sit firmly on the toilet) and a stepstool.

For travel, we have the Potette Plus - it can either be a toilet ring or else a free-standing mini potty (it has disposable liners that are handy for when we're in the car).

When we're in stores, I just crouch in front of her and hold her on the toilet.

  •  we have a safety first potty from walmart-works awesome and has since the beginning.  at g-mas or on the go-she sits on the big potty just fine.   we don't do anything special there
  • I LOVE the Baby Bjorn for Olivia!!    And, let me tell you - the pee guard came in handy a couple of times for her:)   I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  Easy to clean, with no nook or crannies for gunk to get into.
  • I go the Baby Bjorn for my daughter and really like it.  The pee guard isn't an issue for us.
  • We also have the princess potty, but mine haaaate the music so we had to take the battery out.

We also have Saftey First eco something potty. Mine don't have a preference, they'll pee in either.

We aren't at a point where we take the potty out with us yet.
