Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is it crazy to fly cross country with a 16 m/o?

DH is going to Palm Springs in January for work and I'm really tempted to bring DS and go with him.  However, I'm concerned about the flight from Boston to Palm Springs.  It would be DS's first flight.  Tell me it's not really that bad flying with a toddler as I imagine!  I'd appreciate any tips!

  • hrmm... well, my last flight alone w/ DD was a bit of a nightmare.. but, she was getting over an ear infection and we were switched to a 10pm flight so by the time we got to the airport she was overly exhausted and cranky! We also had some baby-haters sitting in front of us, so that didn't help things..

Honestly, it's doable :)  Just invest in a portable DVD player and bring lots of favorite toys and snacks.

  • I have flown a lot with my DS and it is not the nightmare everyone told me it would be.  But my DS is pretty mellow & easily entertained.

  • I am flying with DD by myself next month.  DD is not a sit still child so I am super worried.  I will be bringing a portable DVD player and a bunch of new toys.  I am super nervous but really looking forward to the trip.  Also I think I decided to bring the car seat on the plane so I think strapping her in will help.

  • I just flew with DD to Disney (about 3 hour flight)...It went so much smoother than I ever could have imagined (granted I had DH with me and we traveled with my mom, sister, BIL and nephew), but we brought books, stickers and crayons and she was fine, and lots of snacks and milk. We used a Nuk to help with ears popping. In retrospect it would have been easier had we gotten her, her own seat and installed a carseat, as my sister did with my nephew (24 mos), he fell right asleep...but it was still doable and went fine.
