Is this cord stump EVER going to fall off?

Madison is doing so well and is such a happy baby, so I shouldn't complain at all, but...  her cord stump still seems to be firmly attached with no signs of falling off anytime soon.  We apply alcohol on a Q-Tip every time we change her (which is 10 -12 times a day) and it seems to have dried up a bit, but it does not appear to be loose at all.

We are seeing her pedi on 12/4 for her one month checkup, but I hope this nasty thing would be gone by then.  Any ideas? Anyone else experience a lingering cord stump?

TIA!

  • I can't remember exactly when it fell off, but I know it was within the time frame they usually say. We never used anything on it.

  • Ada's fell off at exactly two weeks (almost to the hour, in fact). I remember it clearly: I was changing her diaper on the bed in Tim's parents hotel room. I don't think it's a reason to worry - it certainly won't be going to her prom with her Wink

Edit: she is beyond adorable, by the way!

  • DS's fell off at 2 weeks.  Stop using alcohol and just let it get dry.  It will fall off..she was just REALLY attached to you!!  :)

  • Callie's fell off at 10 days old, GL
  • Almost 3 weeks for Giselle.  Ditto the rubbing alcohol.
  • Ari's took five or six weeks and Orchid's took three or four to fall off.
  • Don't. Touch. The stump. LO's stump hung on and I had to keep DH from yanking it off.

    Boys are so gross.

Even once most of it came off there was still a tiny bit that hung on for nearly a month. Not much else you can to besides swab it with alcohol and wait.

  • Our Pedi told us to kind of "play with it" (push it to one side, then the other) to get air under it so it doesn't get "stump funk" as he called it. And to not use alcohol - they don't recommend it anymore - he didn't say why. Maddie's took about two and 1/2 weeks.

  • My DS's stump didn't fall off until almost a month! And that was after the pediatrician put some kind of medicine on it so it would dry up quickly.
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • Thanks ladies!  I will try and be more patient and wait.  Now I just need to make sure DH isn't messing with it Stick out tongue
  • We kept it cleanish and dry, but didn't mess with it otherwise.  It came off in 8 days, but there was a teeny bit of black goo left for another two weeks.

  • Booker's was off in under 2 weeks, I only remember that b/c my mom was still here. But it was sooooooo nasty - stump funk is putting it mildly. I think we did an alcohol swab a couple times a day when the smell started to make us gag, but otherwise tried not to touch it. Just thinking about it makes me queasy.
