stupid angelcare monitor!

the past 2 nights, we've had 2 false alarms! of course, DH and I bolted in his room and turned on the light, and he woke up from his peaceful sleep. He was on his side close to the crib railing. Even though he moved off the monitor's sensor pad, we have the board underneath, so isn't that supposed to prevent false alarms?

Re: stupid angelcare monitor!

  • I don't have one but irt makes sence if he moved off the monitor for it to go off. I don't see that as a "false alarm". The machine is only doing what it was supposed to do, let you know when there is no movement.

  • yeah, i guess. i just thought that it covered the whole mattress with the board, but i guess not.
  • We have this monitor and we also have the board under it and it still goes off even when she's ok.  In fact, it went off this morning because she was against the crib railings.  I figure that means its working because it can't feel her movement there so it is actually doing what its suppose to.  I'll admit, its a bit irritating to wake up scared and rush in her room thinking something is wrong with her, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.  There are different sensitivity levels you could play with if you were getting too many false alarms.  We just chose to keep ours on the default sensor level because that's what the manual suggests.
  • We have one and have a board underneath the entire mattress and we've  never had a false alarm - we've even tested it out with putting DD on her side on both ends of the crib and both sides and it still picks up her movement wherever she is at. She's also recently started rolling a lot and I've gone to get her in the morning with her all over the place and it's still ticking. Have you adjusted the sensitivity any? Ours is right up the middle. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Edited to clarify: we got a 2'x4' pre-cut sized sheet of wood for $4 at Home Depot so it is the same exact size as her mattress, not just the size of the sensor pad.

  • ah, maybe i need a bigger board. thanks for the tip!
  • The same thing has been happening to us the past two nights! We have a board under the sensor but I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow to pick up a piece of plywood that's the exact size of the crib (like the PP mentioned.) My little guy squirms all over the crib! At least we know the monitor is working!
