Colin one of the trendiest?

I thought the post about "trendiest" names was interesting in the fact that my son Colin's name was listed. Do you really think Colin is that trendy? If you look at the SSA stats, it's stayed pretty stable for the last 30 years at least and has been in the top 1000 since 1932.

I realize that it ends with the "en" sound but I certainly wouldn't put it with the "Aden" sounding names or Jackson.

You won't hurt my feelings. Just curious. We barely know any young Colins/Collins where we live. Baby Name Wizard calls it a "contemporary classic."

Re: Colin one of the trendiest?

  • I don't think it's trendy at all. It's just a normal name that has been around forever and is becoming more popular again. You are safe. :)

  • Eh, I'd probably call it trendy (although not so much as many others out there, and not the "trendiest").  I knew one Colin growing up, but I think it's much more common than that nowadays.  I don't know any younger Colins personally, but I've seen at least several on these boards.

ETA:  Love the name btw ... it was my boy's name I had chosen back in HS.  : )

I just looked at your sig ... I love the name Graham too, and DD is Natalie.  Similar taste in names I guess.

  • I have not known any Collins/Colins in my real life.  I live in the land of Landon/Landin/Landan,  Cade, Caden, Jayden, and Colin isn't close to being a trend like those names.
  • No, I don't consider it trendy. That was the only name listed that I thought wasn't trendy. It's definitely become popular though.
  • Popular, maybe but not trendy. To me "trendy" is something that comes and goes, Colin is a pretty classic name in my book.

  • I don't think it's trendy, just increasing in popularity

  • No. ?I think it's become more popular in recent years, but I don't give a name the trendy side-eye unless it just popped out of nowhere and is suddenly everywhere. ?Colin/Collin is a traditional name gaining in popularity.?

  • I think it will continue to gain popularity over the next few years. Time will tell if it becomes "trendy".
  • I don't subscribe to the thought that everything that ends in an "N" sound is trendy.

Nathan, Colin, Brian=not trendy. Jason, Ryan, and Brandon were perhaps trendy once upon a time, but not so much now.

I think that Jaden, Aiden, Braden, Caden, Landon, Logan, and Hayden are all trendy now. With that being said, I don't think that trendy is the deadliest babynaming sin.

  • Classic, not trendy.  LOVE.  This would def be our LOs name if he didn't have a cousin w/ the same name.

  • I don't think it's trendy, but maybe the poster lumped it in with other trendy names b/c there is a Gosselin kid named Collin -- and most of the other Gosselins have pretty trendy names (Alexis, Mady, Aaden, etc.).

  • I don't think it's trendy at all. I do know a lot of Colins though, so I guess I'd say it is popular.

  • I LOVE the name Colin.  Love love love it.  It was my #1 choice for this little guy -  DH was so so on it, and I wanted him to love the name too.  I actually posted about this name when we were still deciding.   (I also love Graham, but DH and I know three of them and he nixed that one as well. - looks like we have similar taste in names, I wonder what you would think of the name we did choose for this guy)

I don't think it's trendy, but I think it is definitely gaining in popularity - not so much that the world will be overrun with them.

  • So I am one that said that Colin is trendy.  I've never met or known anyone with the first name Colin until recently. Then, only with a whole bunch of babies.   I guess there are actors Colin Ferrel and Colin Firth (Irish & UK) but except for them Colin has always been a last name and seems to conform with the surname as a first name trend.

That's funny. I've never heard Colin as a last name, only Collins. I know Colins of all ages but I would be lying if I said Colin Firth wasn't part of my inspiration. Smile
