Orange County Babies

Zeesbride (or anyone who delivered at St. Jude)

Were you able to send your LO to the nursery? Everyone has been telling me to at least send him the last night so I can get some sleep. We had our tour tonight though and the nurse said they don't usually staff it (budget cuts I guess?) so baby can only be sent if staffed.

Just curious if you were able to use the nursery or not?

  • Honestly we never asked...we kept her the whole time. Sorry :( Our night time nurses were A-MAZING though so if we needed a break I bet we could have had one. I wish I was more help!

  • i didnt deliver there but the hospital i was at has the same policy.  the baby is always with you unless for a bath or other necessary item needs to be taken care of.

it is REALLY good practice to have them in there with you the whole time.  plus, you will want the baby there. :)

  • I haven't delivered yet but I do remember they told us on the tour that they don't even take the babies to the nursery anymore.  When I delivered at St. Joe's a few years ago we were able to send her to the nursery to sleep a little bit.  Bad mommy, I know but the exhaustion had taken over.  Just like Wee said, doesn't seem to be an option at St. Jude.
  • My SIL had her 3rd kid 18 months ago and she sent her to the nursery. It was her 3rd kid, she knew she needed the sleep. But she was rooming with someone so it was pointless. My friend had a tour last night at St Jude also and she also said as of Dec 1st, no one under the age of 18 allowed in the rooms at all. A bummer for the siblings. I think its b/c of flu season.
  • Yeah the new visitor policy is no one under 18, all visitors must wear masks and only two people at a time in the room.

They did say that depending on the number of cases of H1N1 in the hospital, they might lift restrictions...so there's some hope!

  • A glimmer of hope... thank you for that!!!
  • I delivered on Oct 19th with an emergency c-section, our DS arrived 5 weeks early. We were able to send our LO to the nursery, and I highly recommend doing so.  At first my DH & I didn?t want to use the nursery, but after the 1st night in the hospital with about an hour?s rest we decided the 2nd night he was definitely going to the nursery. The 3rd night the nurse let us know the nursery was going to be closed as they didn?t have the staff to run the nursery. To make a long story short, yes it is available, however there is a chance it might be closed.

Thanks! I am glad you were able to use it.  I may not want to part with him, but I can see being overwhelmed, exhausted and in need of a break- and once we get home there won't be any breaks!
