I came back positive for Factor V Leiden. I am Googling like crazy but thought I'd ask if anyone here knows about this condition and what the treatment can be? A nurse called and gave me the results but no real answers as to what it is, just to wait for my follow up appointment. That and I need to do more blood work.
After 3 losses I feel like I am finally starting to get some answers.
Re: RPL results are in..
From what I've heard from others over on TTCAL, it's a clotting condition and different doctors treat it differently. I don't know if there are levels of severity of the Factor V, some will treat with meds, some treat with baby aspirin. All treat to thin the blood so you won't clot as much as you are now.
I'm sorry for your loss

It seems to be a very manageable clotting disorder. It's possible they may put you on blood thinners next time your pg. You will probably be referred to a MFM specialist. there are lots of ladies here and also over on high risk pg that can give you more info. I have a clotting disorder as well, just not the one you have.
I'm glad you finally got some answers. Hope you have a successful pg soon!

I don't have Factor V but I have 2 other clotting disorders. I was on baby aspirin and Lovenox during my pregnancy with my twins. I gave myself injections of lovenox every day during my pregnancy then switched to heparin at 34 weeks and had to do 2 injections a day of that. I also saw a MFM who did u/s every 4 weeks. My RE also monitored my blood clotting levels for the first month I was on the lovenox to make sure it was working, but also to make sure that my blood wasn't clotting too slowly either.
It can be kind of scary to talk about delivery b/c you can't be on blood thinners when you deliver. Some docs take you off at a certain point. Mine had me take it until the end. That's why they switch to heparin at the end, it stays in your system a shorter period of time. This can impact whether or not you can have an epidural, if you have recently taken a dose of blood thinner you may not be able to have an epi b/c you can bleed into your spinal column and that can have permenant bad side effects.
I was terrified to think about delivery, but I knew I had to take the meds to keep my babies alive. Make sure you ask all of yoru questions to your doc and if you don't feel they are monitoring you close enough ask to see a specialist. If you have any quesitons e-mail me stippy@hotmail.com
