Both my father and DH's late father are named "Raymond". We are on team green, but both agree that we do not want to use Raymond if it is a boy. However, we're thinking about using a middle that is a "Ray" derivative, if it is a girl, with Ashley as a first name. I'm generally against goofy/made-up spellings, but I don't know if any of these fall into that category. So, what are you opinions on Rae/Rayne/Raine? Are there any other "Ray" based names that we could consider?

Re: MN choices: Rae/Rayne/Raine?
I like just plain Rae (also I think it would be fine to spell it Ray)
I also thought of Rachel, has the Ray sound you are looking for
agreed.
This.

I agree with this. My grandfather's name was Raymond as well, and he always went by Ray. I've thought about using it as a mn for a girl, spelled Ray.
However, from the choices you listed, I would go with Rae, as opposed to Raine or any other derivative. (Although, my Mom's middle name is Raylene, named for her father...)
Def Rae. Rayne/Raine are nms.
I like Rae, we are actually considering it as a middle name as well. Not digging Rayne/Raine and I don't think it is really keeping the whole Raymond thing you're going for anyway. I just think of a rain storm
If we do Rae we are probably spelling it that way but other spellings we threw out that you could use Raye, Ray, Rhea..
This.
my dad's name is raymond. i've known for years that if i ever have a baby girl, her middle name will be ray/rae.
i know a girl named sara rae, so that's out. however, it's pretty. i'm currently loving the name ryan rae. that's my pick.
